Blue Jays Sign Pitcher Rick VandenHurk, Places Pitcher Alan Farina On 60-Day DL
The Toronto Blue Jays have announced the signing of 26-year old RHP Henricus Nicolas VandenHurk to a non-guaranteed split major league contract. RHP Alan Farina, who is recovering from Tommy John Surgery, was placed on the 60-day disabled list as the corresponding roster move.
VandenHurk, if he makes the 25-man roster, will be the first player born in the Kingdom of the Netherlands to play for the Blue Jays (Woodman663 would be proud). He was most recently a Baltimore Oriole (probably loved the orange uniforms) after completing parts of three seasons as a starter for the Marlins. VandenHurk is probably just roster filler and will probably start the season in Las Vegas.

It's kind of an inside joke.
You’ll have to ask Pikachu about it.

Blogging about the Toronto Blue Jays at Bluebird Banter
Is it? Is there a reason why it is spelled as one word on the press release and Baseball Reference?
Maybe he Americanized his surname?

More likely the press release and BR Americanized his surname.
Thanks for the spelling heads up Woodman. I think I’ve seen his name spelled the proper way when he was with Florida.
Hic sunt fortuna dracones
There is only 1 "n" in Hutchison
Yea that's weird.
Amongst former Jays with Dutch last names, Ben VanRyn had his surname spelled as a single word, while Jordan De Jong was spelled as two (De Jong was best remembered for his MLB debut against the Devil Rays when he struck out the side.). Of course there was Todd Van Poppel , Andy Van Slyke, and a special case in Johnny Vander Meer.

Being Dutch and a pitcher...
he should be able to provide the Jays with a double-dose of whiffs ^^
