Yahoo! Fantasy Baseball

We have a new sponsor around here, the nice people from Yahoo! Sports want you all to know about their Fantasy Baseball Game. Now, as those of you who have been around here before know, I'm not a big Fantasy Baseball fan. I spend enough time thinking, talking and writing about baseball, I don't need to add more, but I understand that the Yahoo! game is a good one.

Yeah, I know, ads are no fun. But SB needs to keep this place running somehow. And, a lot of folks do play fantasy baseball.

Here is more about their game:

  • Yahoo! Sports is the leading fantasy provider and home to the #1 Fantasy Baseball game available - all for free! It brings fans closer to the game and players they love with free live scoring, mock drafts, mobile apps, over 80 scoring categories, live and offline draft apps, and tools to manage your keeper league.
  • Yahoo! Sports now offers the fantasy fanatic an even more competitive way to play, Pro Leagues are here! Join a Pro League for $20 or $100 and compete to win cash prizes. For those who dare to put some skin in the game.
  • Yahoo! Sports Fantasy Baseball '12 is easy and fun to play for the rookie or veteran fantasy user.
  • Yahoo! Sports Fantasy Baseball provides fans with top-notch information, resources, and expert advice.
  • Yahoo! Sports provides pre-draft advice clips to help you draft the best team possible. Fantasy advice is also available throughout the season with bi-weekly video clips and weekly radio coverage on the Fantasy Freaks (every Friday 8pm-10pm ET).
  • Fantasy baseball is the original social network, it is the way friends stayed connected over America's pastime no matter where they were, Yahoo! Sports continues the tradition by letting fans talk smack talk, check'in, and chat on newly launched message boards.

Let's do a BBB league.

I quit last year because playing with total strangers was no fun. If anyone is interested, perhaps discuss league formatting right here.

I hear ya

I’m up for a BBB league. I usually play free H2H with the standard 5×5 stat categories, live snake draft close to opening day. I would be open to something different too. Thoughts?

It was mentioned in a past thread.

There’s gonna be two leagues this year I think.

The Tom League and The Hugo League? The winner of each league will enter into some sort of championship series in the postseason?

Pro Leagues

Are the Pro Leagues valid in Canada? When money is on the line, people may pay more attention.

You are aware that we had a BBB league last year on Yahoo Fantasy Baseball, right?

It was discussed in this blog a few times. It was a lot of fun, even for a noob like me that finished 19 out of 20…

I'm game for a BBB league.

It will give me something besides my hockey pool to mourn about.

In honor of the Jays 2nd Baseman who played with fire in more ways than one.

I'm a Fantasy Junky

I’ve been playing Fantasy Baseball and Football since the late 90’s. Yahoo! is a pretty good site for non keeper league. I would totally be up for a league on Yahoo. I probably love fantasy baseball as much as regular baseball and with the sorry state of the Blue Jays over the last 15 years i can also say that it has definitely given me more satisfaction. Tom is right about the time aspect however. If you are competitive and enjoy winning, then before you start playing consider that you will likely devote 5-10 hours of your life to pouring over statistical data and projecting matchups and lineups. Then you’ll probably start playing in multiple leagues and your thirst for sweet victory will consume large swaths of free time. Beware of the awesomeness of fantasy baseball.

Format ideas to consider
Scoring: Roto or Head to Head
with this group we should consider some more saber friendly categories too. OBP% instead of AVG, using WHIP for pitchers, using total bases instead of hits.
live draft vs autodraft must be considered too
