Fun Prediction Time: First Hit Of The Season

The Blue Jays will play their first real game of the season on Thursday, so let's try another fun prediction for 2012 before the season begins! Can you guess who will deliver the Jays' First Hit in 2012? And what kind of hit would it be, and in which inning? If you guess that Justin Masterson and the Cleveland Indians will no-hit the Jays in the season opener, you should probably be posting over at Let's Go Tribe--they'll probably like you better.

My prediction? Jose Bautista, double, 1st inning. At least I'll learn if I'm wrong quickly.

The Jays have had 35 First Hits since 1977, and out of these there were 18 singles, 7 doubles, 2 triples, and 8 home runs, recorded by 26 different players. Lloyd Moseby, Roberto Alomar, and Shannon Stewart share the team record for recording 3 First Hits in their Blue Jays career. The vast majority (23) of the First Hits of the season have come in the 1st inning, while in 1990, Nolan Ryan of the Texas Rangers held Toronto hitless until the 6th inning.

Submit your predictions in the comments! A full listing of all the First Hits in Blue Jays history can be found after the jump. The usual Monday Morning Media Mashup links post is taking a one-week hiatus and will return next week.
