That was Much Better. Great Start for Brandon Morrow. Grand Slam for Edwin Encarnacion. Jays Win!

Mariners 0 Blue Jays 7!!!!

That felt so good.

We can score runs! 3 in the 3rd Singles for Yunel Escobar and Kelly Johnson. A very hard hit ball by Jose Bautista that went right through the M's 3B Kyle Seager, scoring 1. It was ruled an error, but it was hit so hard, it was a tough play. An Adam Lind ground rule double scored another. And an Edwin Encarnacion sac fly brought in the last run of the inning. Edwin's fly wasn't deep, I was sure the throw from LFer Chone Figgins was going to get him at the plate, but Lind took off from second and the ball was cut, allowed Jose to score before Lind was tagged out.

Then, in the 8th, Johnson singled. Jose hit a ground rule double. Then the M's decided to intentionally walk Adam Lind (their manager only having the Blue Jays 2009 stats available to him, so it seemed like the right move). Edwin hit a rocket out to right. Edwin had a great day, double, homer, sac fly and 5 RBI.

We had 10 hits, on the day, everyone had at least 1 hit except Eric Thames (who walked twice) and Colby Rasmus (0 for 4). Lind, Johnson and Encarnacion had 2 hits each. Nice to see everyone hitting again, hope it continues.

Brandon Morrow had a great start. 6 innings, 5 hits, 0 walks, and 9 strikeouts. Nice to see the strikeouts back. The Jays PR department tells us that that was Brandon's first time, in 44 starts of 6 innings or more, that Morrow didn't give out a walk. Just a great job, nice to see the strikeouts back. His pitch count was high but I'll live with that for shutout innings.

Our bullpen did the job, a scoreless inning each for Jason Frasor, Darren Oliver and Carlos Villanueva.

Jays of the Day are Morrow (.311 WPA) and Lind (.151). Edwin doesn't have the WPA number, but he got a grand slam so I'm giving him one anyway. No suckage Jays.

We did have a couple interesting moments in the field. In the 5th, with one out and a runner on second. Miguel Olivo popped a ball up right to where Adam Lind was playing, but for some reason Kelly Johnson called him off, their feet touched, not enough to knock either down, and Kelly missed the catch. Fortunately Brandon got a strikeout and a soft grounder to get out of the inning. Also, early in the game, there was a fly ball hit deep, over the head of Colby Rasmus. Colby went back to the track to make the catch, but he had to lunge to the side to get it, he almost missed it. It all worked out but he didn't look graceful.

Edwin was also thrown out trying to steal third, with 2 out and a full count on Brett Lawrie. Maybe he was told to run on the full count pitch, I don't know. It was a bad moment, though the umpire blew the call, he was clearly safe.

Tomorrow, the rubber game, sees Henderson Alvarez facing Jason Vargas. Let's continue the hitting.
