Brett Lawrie gets 5 RBI, Jays beat Twins

Missed you Munenori - Hannah Foslien

Blue Jays 9 Twins 3

Why do I hate small ball? Gibby has Munenori Kawasaki try to bunt, in the first inning. Kawasaki stands on the plate and is called out. We go on to score 9 runs. Bunting in the first inning is just wrong.

Anyway, I guess we can stop worrying about the offense. We scored 20 runs in the last 2 games.

Tonight, it took 6 innings to get the offense going, but then we scored 5 in the inning and 4 more in the 9th. We had 14 hits. Every starter had at least one hit. Jose Bautista had 3. Kawasaki, Edwin Encarnacion and Ryan Goins (!) had 2 each.  Brett Lawrie hit a grand slam in the 9th (suddenly he has 3 on the season) and drove in another run on a sac fly in the 6th. Actually two runs scored on his fly, one scoring when Twins catcher Kurt Suzuki threw the ball away.

Brandon Morrow had a rough time of it. He gave up 4 hits, 4 walks and 2 runs in 3.2 inning, with 4 strikeouts. And that took him 98 pitches. He did seem to be having troubles with the cold, his breaking pitches were terrible. He had a hard time keeping anything in the strike zone.

Thankfully our bullpen didn't have the same troubles with the cold. Over 5.1 they only allowed 3 hits, 1 walk,  1 earned run (a solo home run by Trevor Plouffe off Sergio Santos in the 9th). Aaron Loup, Neil Wagner, Brett Cecil and Steve Delabar did a great job.

The bad news about the night, Adam Lind left to the game with a painful back. We really don't want him going on the DL. I doubt he'll be in tomorrow's game. If he's out tomorrow and if Colby is still out, we'll be down to one guy on the bench

Jays of the Day are Lind (.171 WPA), Bautista (.158, though he really shouldn't be playing center field ever) and Wagner (.097). I'm going to give one to Lawrie too, I figure if you hit a grand slam, you deserve a JoD, and he made a spectacular play at third too. No Suckage Jays today.

The win puts us 2 games over .500 for the first time this year and puts us in first all alone.
