The Jays go for the sweep tonight in the (mostly) friendly confines of the Rogers Center.  With Royce Clayton (toe) and Troy Glaus (hamstring) both out (day-to-day), Howie Clark makes his first start of 2007 at 3rd.  It's been said before, but, man, would Eric Hinske look good on this team.   Unfortunately, I will be missing the first half or so of the game, as I have band rehearsal. Let's go Jays!

Also, Hinske might have looked good on this team, but his paycheck wouldn't have looked good on the team's balance sheet considering the role he would have played.
Olmedo's OPS cooled to Russ Adams levels, so Clark became the obvious choice to fill in. Hopefully his majors/minors OPS ratio is better than that of Roberts.

Hinske
We still payed around 2.5 M for the Red Sox to take him away.

by achengy on May 30, 2007 7:05 PM EDT up reply actions

Litsch
This is my first time I get to see him not exactly a great start with Damon out of all people going yard.

by achengy on May 30, 2007 7:10 PM EDT reply actions

Was going down either way
After his previous two starts it was pretty clear that Litsch was going to be the 26th man once Halladay came back. The only reason he pitched tonight was because Halladay's simulated game was on Saturday and they wanted to keep him on a 5 day schedule.

by Torgen on May 30, 2007 7:37 PM EDT up reply actions

I think I am going to stop watching
I'll give it one inning but with Litsch out and Tallet coming in with it 5-0 I don't think I can have the patience to watch.

by achengy on May 30, 2007 7:27 PM EDT reply actions

No more Guessing
There is no way that Litsch is going stay when Roy comes back.  It was unlikely that he was going to throw 8 2/3 per start.  He definitely needs some more experience, but he has some stuff.

Hmm not sure about the roster moves
They optioned Vermilyea for Clark and DFA'd Ryan Roberts for?

by achengy on May 30, 2007 7:39 PM EDT reply actions

Thought Wolfe
was up for someone else. Totally forgot about that move sorry.

by achengy on May 30, 2007 7:42 PM EDT up reply actions

Announced again today...
...because Clark wasn't on the 40 man roster, so they had to move Roberts off the 40 man roster to clear room in addition to having already optioned him to AAA.

Towers warming up
Considering how long it's been since he's pitched, I wouldn't be surprised if his control was off tonight.

by Torgen on May 30, 2007 8:05 PM EDT reply actions

Well he proved me
Two Ks and a grounder in his first inning of work.

by Torgen on May 30, 2007 8:36 PM EDT up reply actions

5-2
Since it is 5-2 it's back to being a game but I think Towers should be in there whether he struggles or not it's a perfect spot for him.

by achengy on May 30, 2007 8:18 PM EDT reply actions

Oh, the leverage
Howie Clark isn't quite who I'd want in a bases loaded, 2 out, down by 3 situation no matter what inning it happens in.

by Torgen on May 30, 2007 8:25 PM EDT up reply actions

He gets his pitch...
...and hits it long and foul. Next pitch, lazy fly to center.

by Torgen on May 30, 2007 8:27 PM EDT up reply actions

Jeter Special K
What the hell is wrong with Derrick Jeter?

Litsch fans him.
Tallet fans him.
Towers fans him.

All three guys not flamethrowers or blessed with Maddux movement/control.

Awww...
He doesn't strike out against a fourth pitcher in the same game. I'll take the grounder, though.

by Torgen on May 30, 2007 9:14 PM EDT up reply actions

YES announcers look dumb
The moment they say Clippard should just challenge McDonald and the worst case is a double, he hits one out of the park.

by Torgen on May 30, 2007 8:42 PM EDT reply actions

Johnny Mac!
We needed that from the bottom of the lineup. His first HR this year.

by achengy on May 30, 2007 8:43 PM EDT reply actions

2 out double
Let's see if Rios can bring him in again.

by Torgen on May 30, 2007 9:21 PM EDT up reply actions

Nope
Looked exactly like his sac fly from last night, but with 2 outs and the runner was on second.

by Torgen on May 30, 2007 9:22 PM EDT up reply actions

Fasano
I really think his defense is not good and I will dare to say pretty terrible. Bad bat and not that great behind the plate, I'd say that's not a good combo.

by achengy on May 30, 2007 9:09 PM EDT reply actions

3rd string catcher
What d you expect? Swings a good bat in AAA though.

by Torgen on May 30, 2007 9:13 PM EDT up reply actions

Sal's Pal
He's got the 'stache though.

Yeah, he does suck with the bat.

Throwing out only 9% of runners doesn't help.

Yup
Nice throw by Pal Sal.

Frasor strikes out the Side
Why can't Jason pitch like that when the game's on the line?

He threw some nasty heat and the curve was working.

Hill comes close...
...but with the bottom third of the order coming up in the 8th it's looking like the heart of the Jays' order will be trying to solve Rivera. Luckily he's been oft-solved this year. Then again, Johnny Mac has been hot tonight, so maybe Rios will get a chance to tie it in the 8th.

I'd rather smack Farny Around
Saw Farnsworth's numbers and jeez do they suck.

11K/12BB in 20IP?  Ugh.  He used to be a K+ per IP guy.

I've read the Yankee blog and they really hate this guy.

Gahhh Adam...

Rios gets his chance
He's been hot lately... let's hope it continues this at bat.

by Torgen on May 30, 2007 10:05 PM EDT up reply actions

Giving Clark a lot of attention
Is he really a stolen base threat? Hope they throw it into the dugout.

by Torgen on May 30, 2007 10:06 PM EDT up reply actions

Clark singles
Lind pinch hitting for Sal pops out.

by Torgen on May 30, 2007 10:03 PM EDT reply actions

Rios keeps the lineup moving
Overbay to face Rivera with two on and two out.

by Torgen on May 30, 2007 10:08 PM EDT up reply actions

Rios did his job.
Torre's bringing on Mariano.

About the best possible matchup for the 8th for the Jays.

Overbay vs Riveria.  I was hoping for Villone, but Torre isn't that stupid.

Overbay comes up short
Dribbler to first. Wells, Stairs, and Thomas to face Mo in the 9th.

Walking Jeter to pitch to Godzilla
Not sure about this one... Knowing Downs, he'll walk the bases full for this year's Mr. Clutch.

by Torgen on May 30, 2007 10:19 PM EDT reply actions

Jeter broke up the double play
Hopefully that won't come back to haunt us.

by Torgen on May 30, 2007 10:21 PM EDT up reply actions

I think it just did
Well, 60% of the time anyways.

by Torgen on May 30, 2007 10:24 PM EDT up reply actions

Wolfe's debut
How did Clark lose that one?

by Torgen on May 30, 2007 10:27 PM EDT reply actions

WTF???
How the hell did he let that fall in?

From the TV replay it looked like it was A-Knob talking smack.

A-Rod is a douche.

Remember Howie's first day
He is probably not accustomed to Macdonald's voice and therefore was easily fooled. It's unfortunate for him. The post game interview should be something to watch.

by achengy on May 30, 2007 10:38 PM EDT up reply actions

A-Rod
is such a little bitch, I can't believe he just did that. That is such a bush league move. I hope he gets hit by a line drive. That's as bush as him slapping the ball out of Bronson Arroyo's hand a couple years back.

by slitheringslider on May 30, 2007 10:30 PM EDT reply actions

He mouthed
"F*** 'em" to Larry Bowa once the fans started booing when they had the camera on him A-rod

by achengy on May 30, 2007 10:35 PM EDT up reply actions

Fits the whiney turd
He's an insecure little snot.  Only pathetic comfort I have is that every team he's played for since he left Seattle has gotten worse after he joined them.

Sounds like an A-Knob curse or just that he poisons the clubhouse so much.

Everyone's pissed about this
The ump had to hold Johnny Mac back, then the hope plate ump audibly told Philips to "Shut the f*** up."

by Torgen on May 30, 2007 10:32 PM EDT reply actions

Well there goes the rally
Giambi sends one up the middle to score 2.

by Torgen on May 30, 2007 10:34 PM EDT reply actions

Yanks would have won 7-5.
I don't think Gibson will tell someone to throw at A-knob's head, but I suspect that any slide into 3rd will be spikes up.

Maybe this will get the Jays fired up.  It's not the first time that a season changes on A-knob being A-knob (like 2004 for the Bosox when A-knob did his pissy bitchy slappy move.)

We can only hope.

well
can't take the series away, but a bit of an ugly loss. Downs continues to struggle, hopefully he can get it back on track soon, but at least League seems to be making progress and Frasor has recovered. Litsch is obviously gone for the forseeable future, I doubt he'll be back before September, and maybe not then. Regardless of what anybody says, no way that Ohka or Towers are not a better option for spot starts at the moment.

On the plus side, Doc returns tomorrow!

Litsch demoted
Rotoworld was surprised they sent him to AA instead of AAA, but they would have had to demote someone to make room for him.
Also, Clayton apparently had the nail removed from his left big toe after fouling that ball off it.
