Scott Downs (0-0, 5.40 ERA) vs. Javier Vazquez (0-0. 2.57). 8:35 PM EST start.
Scott Downs will be starting in place of the injured Roy Halladay. Although he wasn't particularly effective in his first start of the season, he wasn't awful, either. Fortunately, Jim Thome, who's been red-hot of late (1.664 OPS), has only posted a .772 OPS versus left-handed pitchers throughout his career, compared to a career 1.055 OPS versus right-handed pitchers.
Tonight's Blue Jays lineup:
Adams
Catalanotto
Wells
Glaus
Overbay
Hillenbrand
Zaun
Rios
Hill
Rios is in the lineup against the right-handed Vazquez. Of course, the left-handed Eric Hinske is normally slated to start against righties. Also, despite his recent complaints about his role as the everyday DH, Hillenbrand will nevertheless start at that position in tonight's game.
Tonight's White Sox lineup:
Ozuna
Iguchi
Thome
Konerko
Dye
Crede
Cintron
Widger
Anderson
Both teams are currently tied atop the wild card standings with identical 5-4 records. This season, the Blue Jays will look to improve upon last season's 2-4 record against the White Sox.
