Blue Jays 6, Tampa Bay 3

The Happy Recap
The Jays beat Tampa Bay 6-3 behind some nice pitching and timely hitting.

Doc Halladay did well to keep the Rays largely in check, allowing 3 runs over 7 innings, striking out 7 and walking 3 while giving up one HR (a solo shot to Rocco Baldelli), while Reed Johnson struck the big blow for the Jays, a 3-run HR in the 5th. Vernon Wells had already gone deep (a solo shot), which was all the runs TO would need, although they added 2 in the 8th on RBI singles by Aaron Hill and Greg Zaun. Frank Thomas had a tough day at the plate (0-3 with 3 K's, although he did walk), but all other Jays managed at least one hit, including John Macdonald, who played the whole game at 3rd base and had two singles.

After Doc exited after his 7 (113 pitches, 70 for strikes) the Jays turned to Casey Janssen for a two inning save. No doubt a lot of this had to do with how hard the pen has been working. Janssen did not disappoint, earning the save by pitching two flawless innings.

All in all, a nice game. Tek continues to absolutely sparkle, and nice to see Doc on track.

Clayton Watch: Royce was 1-4 with a double and a run scored (Sparky's HR), although he did strand 3 and hit into a double play.

Jays of the Day
Reed for a big 3-run Hr, Tek for a big 2-inning save, Doc for a good start against a good young offense. Honorable Mention to V-Dub for getting things started and to Gibbons for using Janssen in a nice creative way.

Good Stuff Guys!
