This was not a good day for the Jay's organization as a whole. Losing a tough game to the Yankees, losing close ones or getting blown out in the minors. The GCL Jays avoided an organizational sweep.
Rochester 1, Syracuse 0
Josh Banks pitched incredibly well and was the hard luck loser. He pitched 8 strong with 5Ks and no walks. His downfall was the first batter of the game, as Alexi Casilla homered to leadoff the game and turned out to be the winning the game. Banks does get the JotG and would have won if there was anyone but Kevin Slowey pitching who struck out 8 Cheifs for the complete game shutout.
Portland 13, New Hampshire 1
The second straight blow out. I would say move along but Ricky Romero pitched this one. In 2.1 IP, Romero gave up 9 hits and 3 walks en route to giving up 5ER. Not pretty from our top pitching prospect. Having two first round lefties and top prospects in hitting a wall in AA really blows. Ryan Patterson raised his batting average to .264 and has been the hottest FCat lately adding two doubles and he gets the JotG though normally in a 13-1 game I wouldn't pick one.
Dunedin 1, Brevard County 3
AJ Wideman pitched 7 solid innings with 2ER but only 1K. I still think he's the JotG but he probably will have trouble at higher levels. The batters weren't in this one.
Burlington 4, Lansing 2
The Lugnuts' defense was not kind to Zach Dials as they made 3 errors in the bottom of the 5th allowing them to score 2 runs and those runs ended up being the difference. Snider was 0-4 with a K. Scott Campbell the OBP machine was 2-2 with 2 walks including a double. He shares the JotG with Dials.
Expect me to play favorites with Campbell throughout this season (and maybe next too).
Vermonth 7, Auburn 1
Jonathan Arencibia was 1-4 but with 2Ks. Manny Rodriguez continued his hot hitting going 2 for 4. I would like to seem promoted soon to Lansing. He has played mostly at 1B but was listed at a 2B. Interesting that he was tried at SS last year in the Braves Organization. Interesting.
GCL Jays 4, GCL Phillies 0
Tolisano jacked up another today going 1-4. Balbino was 0-4. Justin Jackson was 1-3 with a walk, Ahrens was 0-3 with a walk.
The main story of this game is that Brian Letko pitched 5 innings of shutout ball with 5Ks. He easily gets the JotG. He is currently perfect in 23.2IP with 0 ER, 27Ks, 3 walks, and 19 hits given up. Give this man a promotion!
Brian Letko information:
22-years old (1-23-85)
Lefty
6'5 195 LBs
19th round pick from this year out of Embry Riddle University
Is 1-2 how? Unearned runs (4)
Apparently threw in the upper 80s in college but has increased his speed.
