Eh. The trade deadline has come and gone, and J.P. Ricciardi, wherever he is, is evidentally still wearing his socks.
I mean, the Giants managed to trade Matt Morris, and he is owed 9 million dollars next year. You're telling me we couldn't find a taker for Frasor (who is rarely, if ever, used anymore - although I suppose that could change next season if Janssen is made a starter)? Or Towers, despite the fact that the Jays seem intent on not retaining him next season and he all but wrote his ticket out of town? Or Stairs, who has been fantastic but who we could probably ship out and then still resign in the offseason anyway? Meanwhile, the Yankees picked up Betemit, a switch-hitting 26 year-old who can play three or four infield positions, mashes righthanded pitching, and has power and patience, for a pitcher roughly comparable to Frasor? How could we not jump on that, if only to see whether Betemit could get it done as an everyday second baseman or SS?
Enough ranting. Litsch v. Jackson.
