Joel Carreno Profile (JOPotD on Wednesday):
Finding information on Carreno is tough as he shares the name as an apparently popular dancer so I can't find picture nor really any reliable information so I'll just have a few words to say.
Joel Carreno is a 20 year old pitcher currently in the GCL. He is a righty from the DR. He played in the Dominican Summer League last year where he dominated but I have no idea what to say about that league. Carreno has an 8.6 K/9 with just 11 walks in 48.1 IP. He had just a 2.98 ERA. With the GCL being such a pitcher's league I really don't know what to think. He will probably be in Auburn next year and being only 20 he has a lot of time to develop.
Jays Organizational Player of the Day:
Marc Rzepczynski nicknamed "Zep" (which I will use more often). He's a 6'3 college lefty that is having some success so far in Auburn. He was drafted out of the 5th round of this year's draft and it must say a lot about him to be put instantly into the A-ball skipping the GCL. I am getting conflicting reports from The Baseball Cube on his success at UC-Riverside. Hopefully it gets fixed up but based on numbers from other sources he had a good WHIP/ K rate in college and was a ground ball pitcher.
It's really early to say how hard and I don't how hard he pitches and such but as a starter he has been fanning batters constantly which is great to see. He has struck out 21 in 15 1/3 innings in those 3 starts while just giving up 4 runs. I think he may be considered as a good prospect (C+) if he keep this up as a starter. Zep is going to be 22 at the end of the month so let's hope we have another pitching prospect other then Cecil from this draft already with graduations and others struggling.
Pawtucket 11, Syracuse 3
Mark Redman sucked to say the least. Adams playing 3B was 2 for 4 with a double, home run and 2 RBI to get the JotG.
New Hampshire 6, Altoona 5 (10 innings)
Jaun Peralta gets the JotG going 2 for 3 with a home run and 3 RBI. He shares it with Jesse Carlson who had 5Ks in 3 IP picking up Kyle Yates. Yates started and gave up 9 hits in 6 innings and gave up all 5 runs.
Jupiter 5, Dunedin 4
Adrian Martin started striking out 5 in 5.1 IP and gave up 2 ER taking the loss after Jupiter eventually took a 5-0 lead. Josh Kreuzer had 3 errors on the night... and the DJays got all their runs in the top of the 9th. Too little, too late so no JotG.
Kane County 16, Lansing 4
Kyle Ginley had a rough night. Snider was decent going 2 for 4 with a home run and 2 RBI to get the JotG.
Brooklyn 4, Auburn 3
Marc Rzepczynski (I hate his name lol) is striking out batters out an awesome rate and that continued today. He struck out 10 in 6 innings and gave up just 2 runs with just 3 hits given up. He earns the JotG. A left-handed out of this year's 5th round look promising. I may just have to memorize that name.
GCL Phillies 4, GCL Jays 1
Brian Letko started and only went 1.1 IP giving up one run but took the loss. The JotG goes to Justin Jackson who went 3 for 5 on the night raising his average to .202. The GCL has been tough on the young guys so far.
