8/3 Minor League Summary

Organizational Player of the Day:
Ryan Klosterman

Klosterman is currently playing 3B for the New Hampshire FisherCats. Last season he played primarily as a shortstop but was moved due to Santos occupying the position. I don't think this position move helped Klosterman as he had some pop for a SS not a 3B and you could argue that Santos projects much better as a 3B.

Some thought Klosterman as a potential utility guy as he could play 2B, SS and 3B and you can probably try at 1st and in the outfield. He has however had a very rough season in AA and probably falls off most prospect lists since he is already 25.

Last season Klosterman was impressive with the bat slugging .508 with Dunedin, he also had a 100% stolen base rate with 19 steals. He currently has 15 steals this year so he has base stealing ability which may get him to the majors. His power has almost been zapped out of him as he only has 3 home runs in 236 at-bats when he had 4 in 137 ABs last year in AA. If you want to take some positive his K/BB rate has improved from High A.

I am not sure what the future brings for Klosterman. If he is in the majors it will likely be as a reserve such as a pinch runner/super sub. At this point it's hard to say if he will be good enough to make the majors. He needs to have more games like he had today or else. He probably will be given another crack at AA next season as this is first go-around but he's not that close to the majors.

Ottawa 5, Syracuse 0
The Chiefs mustered only 3 hits on the night (2 by Diaz and 1 by Adams). Diaz in the 2-spot gets the JotG.

New Hampshire 4, Altoona 3 - (10 innings)
Formerly suspended Yusaku Iriki pitched 7 solid innings giving up 2 unearned runs while striking out 6. The JotG goes to Ryan Klosterman who went 2 for 3 with the game winning home run in the top of the 10th, a double and scored two runs.

Sarasota 2, Dunedin 1 - Game 1 (7 Innings)
AJ Wideman threw a complete game loss giving up 2 runs but only allowed 4 hits. He gets the JotG. Patton and Hatch had two hits apiece.

Sarasota 5, Dunedin 4 - Game 2 (7 Innings)
The DJays had a rally going in the top of the 7th but Carl Cota grounded out with two men on. JotG goes to Luke Hetherington who went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI.

Peoria 6, Lansing 2
Nate Starner continued his inconsistency with a poor outing giving up 5 ER with 7 hits allowed including a home run. The Lugnuts had more errors then hits (3 vs 2). The Lugnuts walked 10 times on the night but struck out 15 times.

State College 6, Auburn 2
JP Arencibia went 2 for 3 on the night as the only DDay with a multi-hit night.

GCL Tigers 3, GCL Jays 0 - Game 1 (7 innings)
The Jays could only muster 2 hits on the night by Tolisano and Chavez.

GCL Jays 7, GCL Tigers 3 - Game 2 (7 innings)
Marcus Walden was decent giving up 1 run (unearned) with 2 Ks in 4 innings. I'll give the JotG to Jackson, Fuenmayor, McDade and Fernandez who contributed equally in the offense.
