Limping into the All-Star break leaving a trail of one run losses behind us. A break is a as a change or something. I'm sure the players are looking forward to a few days off. Well, expect for Roy Halladay and Aaron Hill who are off to the All-Star game. I am thinking it is likely Hill will start the game as Dustin Pedroia is not going to stay with his wife. I hope all works out great for them.
Going into the break Adam Lind leads the AL in extra base hits with 45. Hill is 2nd in hits and Lind is 7th. As a team the Jays are first in hits in the majors with 862 and also in doubles with 196. And, course, we have the league high in starting pitchers making their major league debut with 5 and all in all they are doing good, as a group they have an 11-7 record.
Marc Rzepczynski is making his second start, he set a team record with 7 strikeouts in his first major league start. He's the third starter for the Jays from the 2007 draft, I'm not sure if that says good things about that draft or bad things about the Jay's season. Brett Cecil and Brad Mills are the other two.
Rookie Brad Bergesen (5-3, 3.59) starts for the Orioles. He's competition for Ricky Romero for the Rookie of the Year so a thumping would be a good thing, but I wouldn't bet on it the way things are going.
Today's Lineups:
Yeah we get to see Dellucci again. 0 for 13 as a Jays, but today's his day. At least I'm going to tell myself that. And Chavez is going to take his first walk. Ok, maybe not that one. He has shown off his arm, throwing out 10 of 23 that have tried to steal against him.
The post title is from a recent Merle Haggard song, If I Could Only Fly. Seems to fit how things are going.
