There was a strange feeling of, I'm not sure how to say it, not depression, at the end of that game. Lately, a game ends and I swear for awhile, scare the kids and the cat away from me and then feel sad. For some reason that didn't happen today. Oh I know why, we won! Boy it is a nice feeling.
Brett Cecil was just terrific today, in a different way than his last start. His last start he got in trouble just about every inning and then worked his way out of it. Today he just cruised. 7 innings, 4 hits, just 3 walks, 7 strikeouts and one run off a Carl Crawford solo homer. Brandon League had a great 8th, striking out the side after a lead off double. He looks just unhittable lately. Jason Frasor pitched a perfect 9th to save us from the drama we've been suffering through lately.
Offensively, Scott Rolen's 3 run homer in the 4th was all we needed, but we got a run in the 7th and 8th just for practice. We had 10 hits on the day, everyone but Alex Rios and Rod Barajas had at least one hit. Adam Lind, Scott Rolen and Lyle Overbay had 2 each. Rolen also made a nice play on a ground ball in the 3rd, diving to get the ball then making a great throw from the ground to get Jason Barrett at first. He is, as always, great fun to watch.
Jays of the Day are Cecil (.300 WPA), Rolen (.202) and Lind (.105). No Suckage Jays for a change.
Tomorrow a few of us are off to Seattle to watch 3 games then. I'm looking forward to seeing Ricky Romero and Marc Rzepczynski in person the next two days and I'm hoping that Doc will still be around to make his start Wednesday. Please JP, as a favor to me, don't trade him before Wednesday. I'm also looking forward to meeting up with Timujin, Wroth91 and Carm, unless she decides that she doesn't want to come near us guys. Seattle's a great city, we'll enjoy it.
