U.S. Ambassador to Install Plaque at Jackie Robinson's Montreal Apartment

+

Very nice gesture by the American dipomatic service to recognize Montreal's impact on Jackie and Rachel Robinson's lives during his stint as a Montreal Royal (AAA) during the summer of '46. Mrs. Robinson contrasts life during Spring Training in segregated Florida with life in a Francophone part of Montreal. Although they couldn't converse with many of their white Francophone neighbours, they received (and gave) many gestures of kindness. I'm sure they encountered some amount of discrimination in Montreal but it would have been nothing like what they got in the Jim Crow South.
