Quick Recap Spring Game 3: Jays loss to Phillies

Phillies 6 Blue Jays 3

We finally scored, which is about the best thing you can say about that one.

We didn't score until the 7th inning when the starters were out of the game. We did get 8 hits. One each for Escobar, McCoy (double), Lind (double and a walk), Cooper (also a walk), Juan Rivera, McDonald, Diaz (double) and Thames (triple). Mike McCoy drove in our first run of the spring, so congratulations if you had him in the pool.

We are still waiting for the first spring hit from Davis, Bautista and Arencibia. But then it is only a handful of at bats.

Our defense didn't look good. 5 errors on the day. McDonald, Escobar, Arencibia (bad throw on a stolen base), Tolisano and Diaz each had an error.

And the pitching wasn't terrific today either. Jo-Jo Reyes gave up 2 earned runs in his 2 innings and walked 2. Joel Carreno gave up 4 hits, 4 runs, 3 earned, a walk and a strikeout in his 1.2 innings. Carlos Villanueva came in for Carreno and gave up 2 quick hits, costing Joel two of his earned runs, but he pitched a quick 3 up 3 down 5th inning. Josh Roenicke pitched a good inning, 1 hit, 2 k. Rommie Lewis struck out the side in his inning. Alan Farina gave up a walk and got a k in his inning. Luis Perez had a scoreless 9th, getting a k.

Nice that we finally scored, but would be nice if the guys we expect to be regulars would get some hits. It is early.

The Jays play the Tigers tomorrow. It isn't on radio or MLB Audio.
