Quick Recap - Jays top Yankees 6-5 in spring training action

The Jays scored some quick runs in this one and Brandon Morrow showed both what makes him dangerous and amazing on the mound. Morrow left the game after 5 innings with the Jays leading 4-0, Marc Rzepczynski came in to continue his bid for the 5th spot in the rotation. Things did not go well for him and the Jays ended up barely holding on for the victory 6-5. Click on the photo for more pictures from todays spring training action.

The offense was spread around so lets get to some highlights from the boxscore. Oh... and we scored all these runs off A.J. Burnett, I know that makes everyone smile so it was definitely worth mentioning.

Notables from today's game

  • Brandon Morrow - 5IP, 3Hs, 3BBs, 6Ks, lowered his ERA to 0.75 on the Spring. He did get a couple of double plays to get him out of Jams as well as an assist from Juan Rivera in the outfield gunning down Brett Gardiner at home in the 3rd inning
  • Marc Rzepczynski was not good and while there was an error that helped make his line worse there is no denying that is a lot of hits and walks in the short couple innings of work. He may be running out of time to make a better impression - 2.2IP 6Hs, 3BB, 3Ks, 5Rs (2 Earned)
  • Jose Bautista - 1-3, R, SB
  • Jose Molina - 1-3 HR
  • Travis Snider - 1-3
  • Juan Rivera 1-3, RBI, (and the outfield assist mentioned above)
  • Mike McCoy - 1-2, HR, 2RBI
  • Corey Patterson - 1-4, R, SB
  • Adam Lind - 1-2 R

Tomorrow the Jays battle the Yankees again but this time we will be able to hear the game on the Fan 590 radio network. Brett Cecil is scheduled for the start and slated to go 5-6 innings. He'll be followed by Carlos Villanueva and Casey Janssen.

Just some closing notes (Hat Tip to Wilner on his Fan 590 Blog), the Jays have farmed out Zach Stewart, Henderson Alvarez and John Tolisano. No big surprises but it was nice to hear the Farrell praise the growth of Alvarez. Stewart is close to the majors as well, definitely someone to keep your mind on as we approach call up time later in the year.

Also more good news! Aaron Hill is scheduled to see his first actual spring training action this coming Tuesday, YAY! Frank Francisco is scheduled to pitch in a minor league game this coming Sunday, YAY! and Octavio Dotel threw a light bullpen session with no problems, MEH!

Looking forward to the game thread tomorrow, hopefully if I can find a quiet corner of the house to listen to it.
