The Jays optioned struggling starter Brett Cecil to the Las Vegas 51's this afternoon. After four poor starts and an ERA over 6 they have decided to let Brett work out his problems at AAA. Chris Woodward has been called up to take Brett's spot on the 40 man roster. Chris is a left-handed hitting infielder who Jays fan will remember from when he was with the team a few years back.
Brett was clearly frustrated during yesterday's game so it's good that the team is letting him work things out away from TV cameras.
The trouble is now we only have a four man rotation. No word on who will be filling Brett's spot in the rotation. Jesse Litsch has to stay with Vegas for 10 days unless there is an injury. Barring injury, Brad Mills or Scott Richmond could be recalled to filled Brett's place in the rotation. At least now we have three batters on the bench pending word on Aaron Hill's injury.
