Who's Up, Who's Down for the Jays This Week: June 3 to 9

A pretty average week for the team, we won 4 and lost 3. We scored 39 runs and allowed 32.

Rotation

Arrow_down_3

Ricky Romero

Two starts and two losses. He pitched 15.2 innings, allowed 8 runs, 19 hits, 5 walks, 9 strikeouts. He didn't pitch all that bad but he has been better.

Arrow_around_3_medium

Kyle Drabek One start, he got a win, but it wasn't a good start. 5.1 innings, 9 hits, 3 walks, no strikeouts. I guess it was better than his last start, but then it is hard to do worse than being pulled in the first inning..

Red-cross-icon-1_medium

Jesse Litsch

On to the DL still. Hopefully not for much longer.

Arrow_up_3

Jo-Jo Reyes

He had the one start, it was a win, not as good as his first win, but not bad.

Arrow_up_3

Brandon Morrow

He had one start, a really good one. 6 innings, 2 hits, 3 walks, 5 k and 1 unearned run. Unfortunately the bullpen lost it for him. I'm hoping this is the start of better things for Brandon the rest of this season.

The Rest

Arrow_around_3_medium

Shawn Camp

Only got into 1 game this week. He faced 3 batters, gave up 1 hit, got 1 k.

Arrow_around_3_medium

Octavio Dotel

Pitched in 3 games, faced 7 batters and got 6 out. The other guy hit a home run. Makes for an interesting slash line against, .143/.143/.571.

Arrow_around_3_medium

Jason Frasor

In three games, he faced 13 batters, got 9 out, 2 singles, a homer and a walk. The home run didn't cost us, we won that game 8-4. It was the first time this season that Jason had given up more than 1 run in an appearance.

Arrow_up_3

Casey Janssen

Got his first save of the year. The way things have been going for the guys at the back of our pen, it likely won't be his last save. In 3 games he faced 10 batters and got 8 of them out, allowing a single and a double. He also struck out 3.

Arrow_around_3_medium

Jon Rauch

He got into two games, faced 8 batters, got 6 out. He gave up a walk and a homer. The home run didn't cost us, it was a solo shot in a game we won 7- 4.

Marc Rzepczynski

He had a tough week. He pitched in 3 games. One of them went well, the other two, not so much. He walked 3 with out getting an out in Monday's game and Wednesday he gave up a hit and a walk while getting two outs. Both of those runners scored when Octavio Dotel, who relieved Marc, gave up a home run.

   Arrow_up_3

Carlos Villanueva

Two starts, two wins. He should be moved up with the starters. We'll see what happens when Jesse come back. In his two starts he pitched 12.1 innings, giving up 12 hits (10 singles, a double and a homer), 2 walks with 5 strikeouts. He went 7 innings in Wednesday's start.

Arrow_down_3

Frank Francisco

Boy he is having a rough time of it. He only pitched in 1 game, faced 6 batters. Of those 6 batters, 3 hit singles, 1 walked, 1 bunted and he got 1 out. Another lousy week.

Arrow_up_3

Luis Perez He pitched 4.1 innings over 2 appearances. He faced 18 batters and gave up 3 singles and 2 walks. Who expected him to be this good?

Arrow_around_3_medium

J.P. Arencibia

JP played in 5 of the 7 game this week. .190/.227/.571. He only had 4 hits this week but 2 were home runs and one was a triple. He drove in 8 run. So while I can't give him an up arrow, I don't really think it was a down week either.

Arrow_up_3

Adam Lind

He's Back! In 6 games he hit .429/.500/1.000. 4 home runs, 10 RBI, 4 walks, a grand slam and a death stare (well his version of it). Don't get hurt again.

Arrow_down_3

Aaron Hill

He played in all 7 games. .267/.313/.267. 3 RBI. No extra base hits. He hit in 6 of 7 games but  it would be nice to see some power.

Arrow_down_3

Yunel Escobar

Yunel played in 5 of the 7 games before sitting out with 'quad tightness'. I hope it doesn't turn out to be something more serious. .181/.217/.364. Had the 3 run home run Sunday. Drove in 4 runs and scored 5. Maybe his quad was bothering him all week.

Arrow_up_3

Edwin Encarnacion

Edwin got into 6 of the games this week, 2 as a pinch hitter. He had a good week with the bat, .375/.444/.563. He has been hitting the ball great the last 2 or 3 weeks. We wouldn't mind more home runs but if he keeps hitting doubles I won't complain all that much.

Arrow_down_3

Corey Patterson

It has been a real up and down week for Corey, he had 3 hits Saturday and 4 last night but had 4 hitless games too. .235/.257/.323. He had 1 extra base hit, the solo home in the loss on Saturday. 1 RBI and 4 runs. He took one walk this week, his first since May 24. If he would walk occasionally he'd be so much better in that 2 spot in the lineup.  He also sacrificed 3 times, stole twice and was caught once.

Arrow_down_3

Rajai Davis

A bad week for Rajai, it started off well, he went 3 for 4 Friday, then 1 for 3 Saturday but hasn't had a hit since. .148/.172/.222. He had 3 steals, was caught once and scored 3 runs. Do you think we could call Thames back up and let Rajai and Eric platoon in CF? Having both in the lineup everyday seems redundant.

Arrow_down_3

Jose Bautista

No home runs this week, actually no extra base hits at all. A lot of walks though, 10. Just 1 RBI. 6 runs. .156/.357/.156. Much as I hate to give him a down arrow, he earned it. He had a terrific throw from RF to cut down a runner at the plate yesterday, course he also had a throwing error, so I'm not sure how those balance out.

Arrow_up_3

Juan Rivera

Started 4 of the 6 games and pinch hit in another. Hit .389/.400/.389. Had 4 runs and 3 RBI. I wouldn't mind seeing some extra base hits in there but a good week with the bat and not a bad glove at first base.

Red-cross-icon-1_medium

John McDonald

On the DL. Apparently he is still a few days away.

Arrow_around_3_medium

Jayson Nix

.238/.304/.429. He hit a home run and drove in 4 on the week. He was caught stealing once. I'm not a fan (surprise) but this is about what you can expect from him, an average in the low 200's, the occasional home run. As a placeholder, I would like to think you could do better, but maybe you could do worse. Heal quick Brett.

Arrow_down_3

Jose Molina

Played 2 games, had 7 at bats, 1 hit, 2 walks and he stole a base. I wouldn't believe it if I hadn't seen it. It gives him 2 on the season, teams are going to start holding him on. .143/.333/.142.

Arrow_up_3

Mike McCoy

If I'm the guy, I'm asking Rogers to chip in for a plane and flying lessons. It would be cheaper for them in the long run. He is filling in for Yunel, at the moment, and doing a very good job of it. .300/.563/.400. He took 4 walks yesterday. Was caught stealing once. I hope, when Yunel is back in the lineup, they put McCoy at third.
