No, I am your father - June 19th 2011 - Jays @ Reds - Gamethread

Last year we had a great story with John McDonald hitting a home run on fathers day, unfortunately the Jays lost that day against the Giants, hopefully the outcome today is a bit better.

I won't be around in the gamethread a lot today, the family and I are headed out to the inlaws for a fathers day BBQ, I may pop in time to time on the mobile.

Today on the mound Villanueva takes his perfect record to the hill against Bronson Arroyo. Villanueva has really been good for us this year, he was great in the bullpen and he has been great in the spot starter role that we needed. What a steal in the offseason to pick this guy up. I was as guilty as anyone at the time by completely overlooking the signing, I wasn't expecting him to break camp with the team as he still had options available. Amazing how quickly he has secured his spot on the team.

Lineup changes for today feature McDonald taking over for Hill at second base Nix at 3B, Arencibia is back behind the plate and the garden gnome himself Juan Rivera is in left field. Davis gets the day off, which may have something to do with how he pulled up after 1st base yesterday. Patterson moves from LF over to CF, so keep an eye out on the routes he takes to the balls.

Not sure what it is but Patterson seems to lose a step in CF, maybe he is trying to do too much as the leader of the OF defense? Whatever it is, I hope he gets over it quick. Watching Davis and Patterson this year makes you realize how lucky we were with Vernon Wells, Sure these guys are much faster but just think of all the times that Wells even in decline was able to read the ball off the bat perfectly and make over the shoulder catches look easy.
