Well it has been an interesting week, to say the least, and we played some baseball too. We were 3-3 on the week. Twice we lost really bad, 12-2 to the Rangers and 12 to 4 to the Orioles. Ricky Romero Brett Cecil Jo-Jo Reyes Gone like the car I wrecked gone gone away. Had the terrible start against the Rangers and DFA. 4.1 innings, 8 hits, 8 earned. His first couple of months weren't bad but the last two have been terrible. Brandon Morrow
Great start against the Orioles. 8.1 shutout innings, only 4 hits and 3 walks allowed. 9 k. Good to see after a couple of tough weeks, maybe the All-Star game took away a bit of his focus.
Carlos Villanueva
Carlos made 2 starts this week, and got 1 win, but he wasn't good in either start. Saturday, against the Rangers he went 5.2, gave up 10 hits, 1 strikeout, but somehow managed only to give up 3 earned, not that 3 earned in less than 6 innings is good. Last night, 4 earned in 5 innings, and yet the team won it for him. He's given up 12 runs in 16.2 innings over his last 3 starts. He's been far better than we had any right to hope he would be but I'm thinking maybe that's run out. Gotta think if his next start is poor he'll be back in the pen. Getting to 6 innings has been tough for him lately.
Complete game shut out of the Rangers. 4 hits and 2 walks, 7 strikeouts. Very nice to see.
.
Brandon had a terrible start against the Orioles. I guess after 4 straight wins he was due a bad one but it wasn't fun. 3.1 innings, 9 hits, 6 earned, 3 homers, 1 walk, 5 k. And on his birthday.
Shawn Camp |
Got into 2 game and was terrible in both. 1.2 innings against the Rangers, 5 hits, a walk, 4 earned. 1.1 innings against the Orioles 4 hits, 3 earned. 21.00 ERA for the week. Raised his season ERA from 4.10 to 5.24 in 2 appearances.
Octavio Dotel |
He gone too. 2 games, 1.1 innings, no hits, 1 walk, 1 strikeout. He was pretty good for us.
|
Jason Frasor |
I will miss him. Some guys you grow very fond of, Jason was one of them. It is too bad he blew those couple of saves at the start of last season, or he might still be our closer. Was in 1 game, faced 6 batters, gave up 1 single and struck out 2. |
Casey Janssen |
One of the little benefits of trading 3 guys from the pen is that Casey should get a, well deserved, bigger role on the team. This week, 2 games, 2.1 innings, 2 singles, a double, a strikeout, no runs.
Jon Rauch |
Pitched in 3 games, finished all 3, got a save. Faced 10 batters, 2 hits, 1 a home run, a walk and 2 sac bunts. The home run didn't cost us, we were well out in front. Seems he is the closer of the week.
|
Marc Rzepczynski |
Speaking of guys I'll miss.He took the loss in Saturday's game in Texas, because of an error (I think Lind's foot was on the bag) and a ball not caught by Corey. Course starting the inning with a walk didn't help. |
|
|
3 games, 3 perfect innings. All in blow outs. But let's cheer for small victories. |
Wil Ledezma | Up from Vegas, pitch two innings in one game, the first inning went great, 3 up, 3 down. The other one, 2 walk and a home run to Derek Lee. Not so good.

J.P. Arencibia |
That slump ended suddenly. Batting line for the week: .353/.389/1.176. We knew he was going to be a streak hitter. |
|
Adam Lind |
Hit .167/.231/.333. Had a home run and 4 RBI. And the amazing catch in yesterday's game. He's looked pretty good with the glove, I'd sure like him to start hitting soon.
Aaron Hill |
I don't know what to say, he did hit a home run this week. Slash line for 6 games: .227/.260/.364. I am all for benching him for a few days. Put Mac out there. Can't hit any worse. Not that I think benching will help his bat but there isn't all the much else you can do. |
|
Yunel Escobar |
I am so glad Chipper didn't like this guy. .458/.519/.542. 5 runs scored, 3 RBI. Hard not to like him.
Edwin Encarnacion |
Started all 6 games again, .250/.280/.500. Really good game yesterday, needed the triple for the cycle. I wonder how much different his season would have been if they hadn't decided to move him to 3rd base at the end of spring training?
Corey Patterson |
Gone like my landlord's smile gone gone away. Had 9 at bats, his last week with the team, for a .222/.222/.222 line. And didn't go after a ball that needed to be caught to cost us a game. If the guy would occasional, use his head on the base paths and go after balls in the outfield, he'd be a good 4th outfielder. And if I was 2 feet taller, I'd be in the NBA. Enjoy him Cards fans.
Rajai Davis |
Lost his starting job, I like him as a 4th outfielder. Put him in to pinch run when you really need a stolen base, he could be very useful. Hit .182/.250/.182 in 11 at bats. If he would take walks.....
Jose Bautista |
That ball off his helmet was the scariest thing I've seen this year. Not a great week by his standards, .235/.409/.294, but if you took a fastball off the noggin, you'd have a bad week too. Still gets on 40% of the time.
Mike McCoy |
He's like the wind, you never see him come or go. I'd rather have him than Teahen but that's damning with faint praise. Didn't get an at bat this stay.
John McDonald |
Got into 2 games, 4 at bats, 1 single.
Travis Snider |
Bad week, .167/.167/..208. Like a lot of these guys, if he would walk, the slumps wouldn't look so bad. |
|
Jose Molina |
Just played in 1 game, 1 for 4, 2 strikeouts. Hitting far better than we could have hoped.
Eric Thames |
Bounced back from down arrow last week. I like him better deeper in the lineup, but can't complain about how he hit in the 2 spot. Maybe he'll walk more without Jose behind him. Hit .318/..391/.520. Might be the best interview on the team. |
