Who's Up, Who's Down On the Blue Jays Over the Last Two Weeks: August 5 to 18

We went 8 and 5 over the last 2 weeks, pretty good, 5 and 2 over the last week. Beyond the record, it is such a fun team to watch, right now. No offense to Jayson Nix and the other place holders, I like watching guys that could be here for years to come. There are a lot of exciting players on the team now.

Ricky Romero

3 starts, 3 wins. He pitched 8, 7 and 9 innings giving up 2, 1 and 0 runs. Batters hit .114/.176/.349 against him in those starts. The thing about Ricky is that he thinks it is very important that he keeps improving. I think he'll have a great career.

Henderson Alvarez He had 2 starts, we won one and lost one. They weren't great starts but considering he jumped from AA to the majors, after not many AA starts, he hasn't been bad. He went 5.2 innings in the first and 5.0 in the second. He struck out 7, walked just 2, gave up a home run and hit a batter in each start. He's shown enough that I think we all see that there is potential there, whether it is his time is now is another question.

Brett Cecil

Two starts, Brett went 7 innings in both. We won one and lost one. Batters hit .180/.222/.440 off him in the 2 starts but he gave up 3 home runs and had a 4.50 ERA. I really like having Brett in the rotation.

Brad Mills

He's gone back to Vegas. He had 3 pretty bad starts in the 2 weeks, though we won 2 of his 3 starts. His best  start was the August 5th one aganist the O's, he went 5.1, allowing 4 hits, 3 earned 4 walks and 5 strikeouts. The other 2 starts were just 3 innings each and he gave up 6 runs both times. In the 3 starts he pitched 11.1 innings giving up 15 runs.

Arrow_up_3

Brandon Morrow

He had 3 starts, we lost two of them but he wasn't terrible in any of them. He went 7.2, 7 and 6 innings. Batters hit .151/.244/.274 against him. He had a 3.48 ERA with 21 strikeouts in 20.2 innings. Pikachu was right, he deserves an up arrow.

Shawn Camp

In 4 games, he didn't give up a run. Faced 22 batters and held batters to a .263/.364/.316 line. Not great but better than he has been doing this year. An unenthusiastic up arrow.

Arrow_down_3

 Trever Miller

DFA. Got into 4 games in the 2 weeks, pitching a total of 2.2 innings. .273/.385/.545 batter line. The home run given up in the Mariners game was the last straw. I'm sure he is a great guy, but I think his time in the majors is coming to an end.

Arrow_up_3

Jesse Litsch

Pitched in 5 games, 7.1 innings, gave up 1 earned, 3 hits, 1 walk and had 6 strikeouts. Batters hit .130/.167/.261 against him. Only black mark was a solo homer. Yeah, I'd rather he start, I don't understand what the team doesn't like about him as a starter, but he's been great in the pen.

Arrow_up_3

Casey Janssen

5 games, faced 15 batters, allowed just 2 singles and a walk, with 6 strikeouts. I like that he is in a higher leverage spot, I wouldn't be against him closing but I think he is more valuable if he is available for use earlier in more important spots.

Arrow_down_3

Jon Rauch

The homer was hit so hard it caused his appendix to burst. Pitched in 4 games, 1 win, 1 save, 1 loss. In the 4 games he only had 1 clean inning. In the 3.2 innings, he gave up 5 hits and a walk, with 3 k. I wish him a quick recovery, but I don't want him closing out games any more.

   Arrow_down_3

Luis Perez

Pitched in 5 games, gave up an earned run in 4 of them. Pitched 4 good innings Tuesday but hasn't been good other than that. Gave up 2 hits, and 3 walks, 1 earned, 3 unearned in a inning back last week against Oakland. 4.32 ERA, but if you added the 3 unearned would be a 7.56 run average. Curious to see him start. Curious doesn't mean I think it is likely to go well.

Frank Francisco

4 games, 4 innings, no runs allow, 3 hits, 1 walk, 3 k. Faced 15 batters, 2 singles, 1 double and the walk. Back to the closer role, if we every need a save again.

Arrow_around_3_medium

Wil Ledezma Back. With Perez in the rotation, he's our lone left in the pen.

Batters:

Arrow_down_3

J.P. Arencibia

Played 10 games. Didn't hit great, .150/.190/.250, but did have 7 RBI. It seems, when he does hit, he drives in runs.

Arrow_down_3

Adam Lind

It seems like he is turning it around, looked good the last 2 or 3 games. But over the 2 weeks he hit .196/.193/.393. Didn't he use to take some walks? It seems like he has been going the other way some lately. Defense looks good.

Arrow_down_3

Aaron Hill

.216/205/.270. I got nothing.

Arrow_down_3

Yunel Escobar

.Not a good couple of weeks for Yunel, .204/..233/.241. There were a couple of errors in there too. It is a long season, everyone is going to have some down time. Might be worth giving him a couple of days off.

Arrow_up_3

Edwin Encarnacion

Man has he been hot. .415/.528/.707. 3 homers, 10 walks, 3 double, 9 RBI. There have been a lot of mistakes this year, but maybe the biggest was that last minute shift of him to third base at the very end of spring. He has a .286 batting average right now, anyone think he won't get to .300?

Arrow_up_3

Colby Rasmus

Tony LaRussa didn't like this guy? .311/.319/.600. Only took 1 walk. Had 9 RBI. Looks good in CF.

Arrow_down_3

Rajai Davis

Hurt, I'm not sure if we should expect him back this year. Hit .143/.200/.214 with just 1 steal in 14 at bats before the tear.

Arrow_around_3_medium

Jose Bautista

This past week he's been great.471/.625/.882, unfortunately the week before he wasn't so great. In all .256/.400/.442. Most players, if they had a .400 OBP that would be an up arrow by itself.

Arrow_around_3_medium

Mark Teahen

7 at bats, 1 hit but it was a home run.

Arrow_up_3

John McDonald

Started 3 games, got into 2 others. 8 hits, 3 of them doubles, pretty nice looking line, .615/.615/.846. Do you figure it is his farewell tour with the Jays?

Arrow_up_3

Brett Lawrie

Anyone expect him to start off this good? .378/.440/.711, 3 home runs, 4 doubles, 1 triple, 5 walks, 1 stolen base and 10 RBI. I need a bigger up arrow. Vegas manager, Marty Brown, told me I'd like him, no kidding.

Arrow_up_3

Jose Molina

3 games, 10 PA, 3 hit, 1 double, a walk. For a catch and throw catcher, he's swinging a pretty good stick.

Arrow_up_3

Eric Thames

272/.327/.523, 8 runs, 5 RBI. came off an 0 for 19 stretch nicely. His defense is.....an acquired taste I guess. I think it looks worse than it really is, but then it looks really bad. I think it will get better.
