Major League rosters expand tomorrow, so who do you think the Jays will call up?
Jon Rauch and Carlos Villanueva will be activated off the DL so that will give us 27 on the active roster though Brian Tallet could be released very easily. Beyond that?
Dustin McGowan: McGowan is to start tonight for New Hampshire and he is up to 75 pitches a start so he could be called up for next week, but then the Fisher Cats have 5 more regular season games after tonight so they could leave him there to make one more start. And, after that, they are in the playoffs, I wonder if the Jays would leave him there to make a playoff start? I do think they would want to bring him to Toronto at some point, but it might not be until the middle of the month.
Kyle Drabek: Doubt it. I think when the Vegas season ends they'll let him go home and forget about baseball for a bit.
Brad Mills: Doubt it. He has thrown 160+ innings this year, I think they'll rest his arm, unless they feel like they need an extra arm in the bullpen.
P.J. Walters: Doubt it. He's been hit really hard in his 6 starts in Vegas. He has a 9.13 ERA.
Danny Farquhar: Doubt it. He's been really good in Vegas but they would have to add him to the 40-man roster and burn an option to do it.
David Cooper: I think so. He'd give us a bat off the bench and let EE or Lind sit occasionally. They might wait until the 51's season ends on September 5.
Adeiny Hechavarria: Maybe. Unless they want him to rest a bit before the Arizona Fall League starts, I don't see any reason why not. It wouldn't cost them anything. It would be nice to see him.
Darin Mastroianni: I think so. I don't see why not, if nothing else you'd have a pinch-runner on the bench.
Moises Sierra: Doubt it. He is on the 40-man roster so it wouldn't cost anything but he didn't have an amazing season at New Hamshire and they have playoffs coming. They'll leave him there.
Adam Loewen: Maybe. I'd really like them to take a look at him, but they would have to add him to the 40-man (if they activate Dustin McGowan they would have 1 spot left) and he is out of options. Once they put him on the 40-man they can't send him back to the minors without him clearing waivers. But then he could leave the team, this winter, if he wanted to, he is a free agent after the season. If another team wanted him, they could have him either way. Sooner or later they either have to give him a shot or let him go.
Anyone else you'd like to see the Jays call up?
