Who's Up, Who's Down For the Jays This Week: July 29 to August 4

A 3-3 week. not bad, not good. Though, after yesterdays game, I had to keep reminding myself that I love this team. If they hadn't called up Lawrie, I'd be very depressed. Timing is everything.

Ricky Romero

Pitched 8 innings in the win against the Rays on Tuesday. Allowed just 1 hit, the home run, walked 4, struck out 7. I think that we can give him an up arrow. ERA is under 3, pretty decent.

Arrow_down_3

Carlos Villanueva Had the bad start, 2.2 innings, 9 hits, 8 earned and 1 strikeout, then had an MRI and went on the DL, without the team telling us what the MRI showed.

Arrow_up_3

Brett Cecil

Two starts, both good. 7 innings against Texas, 1 earned run and 6 innings against the Rays and 3 earned runs.  1 win and a no decision in yesterday's awful game. Glad to see how he has turned his season around.

Arrow_up_3

Brad Mills

Really good in his first start for us this year. 7 innings, 6 hits, 2 walks, 5 k, 2 earned. Gave up a home run but he looked good.

Arrow_up_3

Brandon Morrow

His start this week was a good one. 7 innings, 6 hits, 2 earned, 2 walks, 11 strikeouts.

Shawn Camp

A quick rule of thumb, if a reliever is asked to intentionally walk 3 guys in an appearance, things aren't good. Pitched in 3 games, 2 went well, yesterday's not. In total 2.2 innings, 4 hits, 3 walks (all IW), 1 k, 1 earned. But then since the earned run was a walk off, it wasn't good.

Arrow_down_3

 Trever Miller

2 appearances, pitched to 5 batters,  3 of them got hits, 2 singles and a double. This is a LOOGY who has give up a .271/.386/.375 line to lefty batters this year. Don't expect much.

Arrow_up_3

Jesse Litsch

Two relief appearances. Faced 15 batters, allowed 1 hit, a home run, 2 walks while getting 8 strikeouts. Very good really.

Arrow_up_3

Casey Janssen

In 2 games, Casey pitched 2.2 innings, allowed 1 hit, no walks and struck out 3 guys.

Jon Rauch

You know, if we ignore yesterday, he had a pretty good week. 2 other games, he got 2 saves. He did give up 4 hits and a homer in those 2 innings but both were successful (if stressful) saves. Yesterday was, really there aren't words to say how bad it was. But he blew a save (number 5 on the year), then we got the lead back, so Farrell put him out there to give up a single and a double to set Camp up for a blown save. He is giving up a home run every 5 innings.

He's back. Our bullpen is like musical chairs, you never know who is going to be there when the music stops.

Frank Francisco

3 games, 3 shut out innings.  He did give up a hit in each but compared to some of the others in our pen he's been Rollie Fingers, except bigger and no mustache and well you know. I'm all for giving him the closer job back.

Arrow_down_3

Wil Ledezma Got in 1 games, faced 7 batters, 3 hits, 1 walk and 3 strikeouts.

Batters:

Arrow_up_3

J.P. Arencibia

Played in all 6 games this week. Hit .222/.300/.556. Even took a couple of walks. Had 5 RBI and 2 home runs.

Arrow_down_3

Adam Lind

Had 3 hits on the week, all in yesterday's game and hit the ball hard into outs twice too. Still a bad week, .143/.143/.143 with 1 RBI. Hoping that yesterday is a sign he is turning it around.

Arrow_down_3

Aaron Hill

.235/.316/.235. Almost tempted to give him an up arrow, cause it was his best week in a while. But no.

Arrow_down_3

Yunel Escobar

.A down week for Yunel, .167/.300/..333. Hit his first home run in more than a month. Also got tossed from a game, very quickly. Is it my imagination, or do umpires have quicker trigger fingers this year?

Arrow_up_3

Edwin Encarnacion

Hit .300/.417/.550, really good week again and he took 4 walks this week. Nice to see, since he hasn't been taking many walks.

Colby Rasmus

I'm not worried what Colby bats this year, next year I'll start care. But he was .200/.231/.280 this week. Seemed to improve as the week went on, I'll give him a bye for this one.

Arrow_up_3

Rajai Davis

Lost in the mess that was yesterday's game, was Davis getting picked of first because he tripped himself up going back to the bag. We might have won if he could have done his usual steal of 2nd and 3red. Dive back every time Rajai. Beyond that, he had a good wee: .333/.455/.556. Walked a couple of times, stole a couple of bases. Appeared in 5 of 6 games.

Arrow_up_3

Jose Bautista

Had a couple of home runs after a little drought. Hit .211/..400/.526,

Arrow_around_3_medium

Mark Teahen

Had 2 at bats, both outs. I'd expect that will be both about the average number of at bats he gets per week and the normal result.

Arrow_around_3_medium

John McDonald

Got into 3 games, had 7 at bats, 2 singles, stole second then was caught stealing 3rd. John, please, never try to steal 3rd again. Deal?

Arrow_down_3

Travis Snider

Bad week, .167/.167/..208. Like a lot of these guys, if he would walk, the slumps wouldn't look so bad.

Arrow_up_3

Jose Molina

Played in 2 games, 0 for 4 in his start on the 31st and then hit the 2 run triple that should have given us the win yesterday.

Arrow_down_3

Eric Thames

He's staying. Travis is going. Eric was 0 for 19 on the week with 1 walk and 8 strikeouts. I'm torn between 'slumps happen' and 'well he's been better than I thought he'd be, maybe this is the correction'. I think it is fair to give him a couple more weeks to see which is right.
