Minor League Recap - September 3 - 5 Blue Jay Farm Teams Make the Playoffs

We have 5 of out minor league teams making the playoff. Bluefield (who won the first round of their playoffs and not are playing for the Appalachian League Championship), New Hampshire, Vancouver, Dunedin and Lansing all have made it to post season ball. That is a good sign for the future.

Bluefield 3 Johnson City 4 (Bluefield down 1-0 in the best of 3 series)

Nicholas Purdy: Started, 3.1, 5 hits, 0 runs, 2 walks, 5 k.

Les Williams: 2.2, 3 hits, 2 earned, 1 walk, 2 k.

Andrew Sikula: 2.0, 1 hit, 4 k.

Jonathan Lucas: 0.1, 3 hits, 2 earned, 1 walk, blown save, loss. He came in in the 9th inning with a 1 run lead and lost it.

The offense only had two hits, one of them was a 3 run homer by Kevin Pillar in the first inning and that was almost enough.

Vegas 11 Salt Lake 8

Kyle Drabek: 7.0, 8 hits, 6 earned, 0 walks, 4 k. Win. 5-4, 7.44. Glass half full? No walks. Lots of hits and 1 home run, but then it is Vegas.

Sean Henn: 2.0, 2 hits, 2 earned, 1 walk, 2 k, 1 HR. 2.79.

Darin Martroianni: 3 for 5, walk, 2 SB. .270/.351/.386.

Adeiny Hechavarria: 3 for 6, 2 doubles, 2 RBI. .394/.434/.535 in 23 Triple-A games.

Adam Loewen: 2 for 3, triple, 2 BB. .309/.378/.514.

Jayson Nix: 4 for 5, double, HR, 4 RBI. .273/.347/.526.

Ricardo Nanita: 3 for 5, HR, 2 RBI. .366/.417/.565.

New Hampshire 11 Portland 0 (NH clinched the Eastern League title, playoff start Wednesday)

Nester Molina 3.0, 1 hit, 0 BB, 4 k. 0.41 ERA in 22 Double A innings.

B.J. LaMura: 3.0, 2 hits, 1 BB, 1 k. Win. 6-5, 4.19.

Evan Crawford (3.35), Wes Etheridge (4.50) and Ronald Uviedo (4.15) each pitched a scoreless inning.

Anthony Gose: 1 for 5. .250/.345/.404.

Kevin Howard: 2 for 4, HR, walk. .286/.358/.371.

Moises Sierra: 3 for 5. .276/.342/.434. Has been pretty good over the last 10 games: .325/.349/.450.

Travis d'Arnaud: 1 for 5, HR. .311/.371/.542.

Mike McDade: 2 for 4. .279/.327/.450.

Yan Gomes: 1 for 5, HR. .250/.317/.463.

Mike Sobolewski: 2 for 5. .268/.321/.370.

John Tolisano: 2 for 5, 2 HR, 5 RBI. .224/.321/.414.

Vancouver 2 Boise 8 (Vancouver starts playoffs Monday in Vancouver)

Ben White: 5.0, 11 hits, 7 earned, 1 walk, 2 k. Loss. 1-1, 7.00.

Canadians had 6 hits, but then they found out they made the playoffs before the game started.

Dunedin 6 Clearwater 2 (Playoffs start Tuesday in Dunedin. It is a nice park, we should all go down to watch).

Scott Gracy: Started. 2.0, 2 k. 3.86. Looks like they wanted to get a lot of pitchers a little work before the playoffs.

Rajai Davis: 1 for 3, HR in his first rehab game.

Ivan Contreras: 3 for 4. .224/.279/.308.

Kevin Nolan: 2 for 3, double, walk. .282/.375/.416.

Brad McElroy: 1 for 2, 2 BB. .295/.378/.405.

Ryan Goins: 2 for 4. .286/.343/.408.

A.J. Jimenez: 1 for 4. .303/.353/.417.

Lansing 2 Dayton 4 (Playoffs start Thursday)

Justin Nicolino: 1.2, 2 hits, 1 earned, 3 k. Loss, 1-1, 3.12. I'm imagining they wanted to keep his pitch count down going into the playoffs.

Tyler Powell: 4.1, 5 hits, 2 earned, 1 walk, 2 k. 4.57.

Jake Marisnick: 2 for 4, double. .322/.393/.500.

K.C. Hobson: 1 for 4, triple. .252/.338/.336.

In this game, Billy Hamilton, of the Dayton Dragons, stole his 100th base of the season. 100 steals, 20 time caught. Other than that, his batting line isn't all that exciting, .278/.339/.360. But only turns 21 next Friday (he has the same birthday as my middle son), and plays SS.
