Blue Jay Minor League First Basemen

Yesterday we took a run looks at how the catchers at our full season minor league teams are doing, today we'll look at the first basemen.

Las Vegas 51's

David Cooper is getting the bulk of the time at first base, in the Vegas heat, Yan Gomes has spelled him some but we looked at him along with the catchers. Cooper is hitting .333/.403/.568 with 4 home runs (3 of them in the last two games), 12 doubles, 1 triple, 27 RBI, 13 walks and 12 k. His last 10 games he is hitting .385/.478/.846. Cue the chorus of folks wanting to see him getting a shot in at Lind's job.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats

Michael McDade is hitting .327/.413/.452 (pretty similar numbers to Cooper's, in a tougher league for batters) with 3 homers, 4 doubles, 13 RBI, 16 walks and 23 RBI. I'm happy to see McDade taking some walks, last year, in 524 at bats, he took 28 walks total. This year he has 16 in 104 at bats. It seems like the power numbers are slow to get going. I always thought that if McDade could learn to take some walks, he could be a valuable player. I was hoping he'd be in Vegas this year, I think the PCL is built for him. Over the last 10 games, Mike has been hitting .342/.444/.526.

Koby Clemens has mostly played DH, but has 5 games at first, 1 game at third and 1 in left. Roger's son, isn't a prospect anymore, he's 25 now. Hitting .162/.311/.324, with 2 homers, 3 RBI, 8 walks, 20 strikeouts.

Dunedin Blue Jays

Jon Talley has played mostly first, with 1 game at catcher and 2 at DH. He is hitting .313/.446/.433 with 1 homer, 5 doubles, 7 RBI, 15 walks and 14 k. He's never hit like this before in his life. In his last 10 games he's hitting .379/.561/483.

Gabe Jacobo has filled in at first some and DHed. He's played 7 games for Dunedin .269/.242/.346.

Lansing Lugnuts

K.C. Hobson, a player I had high hopes for, but hasn't shown any of the power that I though he might develop. His dad played for the Red Sox, back in the 70's. K.C. has played 23 games and is hitting .209/.240/.352 with 2 home runs, 7 doubles, 12 RBI, 4 walks and 15 strikeouts. The last 10 games haven't gone any better for him, .179/.179/.385.

Kevin Patterson has been playing DH and a little first base. He's hitting .273/.347/.500 with 4 home runs, 3 doubles, 14 RBI, 8 walks and 19 strike outs.
