The last two week have, at very least, been very eventful, but we haven't had much for good baseball over that time. We were 4-8 over that period.
Ricky Romero |
2 starts, neither went very well. He gave up 5 runs (3 earned) in 7 innings against the White Sox and 4 runs (3 earned) in 4 innings against the Braves. The good news is that he was 1-0 and the team won both, but it wasn't because of Ricky's great pitching. He gave up 14 hits, 3 walks, 2 HR, 5 k in 11 innings. At least he cut down on the walks.
Brandon Morrow | 2 starts. One was just terrific, complete game shutout, 2 hits, 2 walks. The other was sad, leaving the game after just 6 pitches, and going on the DL with a oblique strain. Recover quick Brandon.
Henderson Alvarez |
3 start, he was 0-2 and the team lost all 3 games. He wasn't awful, just not good. He went 6.1, 7.0 and 7.0 innings in the 3 starts. 4.87 ERA over the 2 weeks. Batters hit .296/.313/.543 against him. Only 2 walks, but 5 home runs (3 of them in the start against the Braves). A little offensive support wouldn't have hurt. The term 'innings eater comes to mind.
Kyle Drabek |
I had really good seats, behind the plate, for Kyle's start against the Braves. For a change he was around the plate with most of his pitches, but, also unusually, he was hit very hard. And it ended when something went pop. I hope he's ok. His 3 starts resulted in a 0-2 record and 3 losses for the Jays. Batters hit .290/.389/.452 against him with 10 walks in 16 innings. |
|
Drew Hutchison |
2 starts, a good one against the Red Sox, going 7 innings and allowing just the one run, on a solo homer and a bad one, allowing 5 earned in 6.1 with 3 homers against Atlanta. |
Luis Perez |
He got into 5 games, allowed 3 runs in the first one, against the Red Sox, and then 1 run (but 6 hits) in 2.1 against the Nationals. No runs in the other 3 games. Batters hit.423/.464/.500 against him.
Darren Oliver |
Pitched in 6 games, gve up a run in one of them. Allowed a .143/.250/.143 line. Must better than the previous 2 weeks.
Francisco Cordero |
Sigh. 7 games. .333/.429/.556 line. Just a 3.86 ERA if that means anything to you.
Casey Janssen |
He only pitched in 3 games, we didn't have many save situations and, lord knows, we wouldn't want him out there in a tie on he road. Allowed just 2 hits and no walks in his 3 innings. Can you imagine how different John would manager if there wasn't a save rule? |
|
Jason Frasor |
Frasor slowed down 5 games, but didn't give up a run. Allowed just 3 hits and 2 walks, with 5 k.
Carlos Villanueva |
4 games, 5 innings, 1 earned, 4 hits, 4 walks, 3 k, 1 HR. .211/.375/.474 line.
|
Sergio Santos |
Will he ever be back? |
Aaron Laffey | We've had half a dozen guys go up and down the last couple of weeks, yet again. Laffey pitched in one game against the Nationals and looked pretty good other than the 2 homers he gave up in his 3 innings.
Batters: |
||
J.P. Arencibia |
JP had a really good May, so, of course he is having a poor June. Hitting just .143/.225/.143 this month. I'm really not against seeing what d'Arnuad can do. |
|
David Cooper |
His hot steak seems to have run out, he is 0 for his last 4 starts. Looks like pitchers have found his weakness. Hopefully he'll turn it around quick. For the total of the last two weeks, he's hit .250/.308/.472, not bad.
Kelly Johnson |
June hsn't been good for Kelly, not sure if the hamstring is still bothering him but he is hitting .229/.302/.271, which isn't good enough.
Yunel Escobar |
Another to add to the parade of guys not hitting in June. He's got a .227/.306.318 line. No wonder we aren't winning.
Edwin Encarnacion |
Edwin missed a few games after taking the pitch in the hand. He's one of the few that has been hitting, .323/.417/.419, though no home runs in the past couple of weeks. Still can't complain too much.
Colby Rasmus |
Colby is having a pretty decent June, hitting .294.,333/.529, with 3 homers and 8 RBI. He has only had 1 walk over the past couple of weeks but is making good contact.
Yan Gomes |
Gomes had been sent down to Vegas, but never left the city. He's played more than Mike McCoy. 9 at bats, 2 hits, 1 HR, no walks, 2 k. .222/.222/.516.
Jose Bautista |
I think Buck can really say that Jose is back now. 7 home runs in 12 games, .293/.434/.854 line, 15 RBI. Back to being really fun to watch.
Brett Lawrie |
Brett has moved into the leadoff spot. He's still not driving the ball the way he should be, getting by on infield singles. But he has taken a few walks (5) since moving to the top spot of the order. .265/.345/.347, 1 steal, 3 times caught stealing. The 3 caught stealing pushed me to the down arrow.
Omar Vizquel |
1 hit in 10 at bats. He pinch hit for us the other day. I think if you have Omar pinch hitting, at age 45, you have really done something wrong with your roster. I'm wondering if he really has any value for the team.
Ben Francisco |
Still on the DL. I could have filled this slot with Mike McCoy, but he only had 5 at bats, but then 2 hits. . |
|
Rajai Davis |
Rajai played in 11 of the 12 games over the past 2 weeks. Too much playing time, but we don't have anyone else. Hit .242/.324/.394 with 1 homer, 1 triple, 6 steals, caught once. Just 3 runs. Really about as good as you could expect Rajai to do, and it isn't good enough. Get Travis up here.
Jeff Mathis |
Played in 4 games, 2 hits, 1 home run, in 12 at bats. Remember all those stories about how he would hit better here than for the Angels? We don't see them any more. |
