Ricky Romero looked so much better today, and yet he got the loss. The only thing hit really hard off him was the 2-run homer by UGLY. Other than that he looked great.
Unfortunately, our offense wasn't good. We only had 5 hits and 2 walks, pretty awful when you are facing Glavin Floyd. The rare times we had base runners, we hit into double plays. Brett Lawrie hit into one in the 6th and Rajai Davis hit into one in the 7th, with 2 on.
The dumbest play of the game belongs to Jose Bautista. With 1 out in the 9th and us down by 2, he hits a fly ball to LFer Dayan Viciedo, who missed it. I guess he lost it in the sun. But Jose made the foolish decision to try to stretch it into a triple. He might have been safe, but was called out. Even if he was called safe, it would have been a dumb move. We were down by 2, his run didn't matter. He's really has got to be thinking out there. Aggressiveness is good, foolishness isn't.
No Jay of the Day. Suckage goes to Rajai (-.165, stop trying to pull outside pitches, all you get is weak grounders for taylor made double plays), Adam Lind (-.116) and Jose (-.097, plus that base running blunder).
Brett Lawrie left the game with 'lower back stiffness'. I'd imagine they'll sit him out of tomorrow's game and hope that he recovers over the All-Star break.
Oh, almost forgot, in the first inning, with 2 out, Ricky Romero struck out Alex Rios swinging. TV went to commercial, I switched channels. When I came back, Rios was back at the plate. The umpires decided, long after the fact, that Rios foul tipped the ball. He didn't. Replays showed that. I don't know hope Farrell managed not to get thrown out of the game. I would have been. Fortunately, Yunel Escobar made a great diving play on Rios' ground ball to end the inning once again.
Tomorrow we have Brett Cecil (2-1, 5.64) vs. Dylan Axelrod (0-1, 4.91) and then the All-Star break. I don't know about you, but I'm ready for it.
