Blue Jays Sign Josh Thole

Brad Barr-US PRESSWIRE

Catcher Josh Thole, who came in the R.A. Dickey trade gets a 2-year contract at $1.25 million a year, plus a club option at $1.75 for a third year.

Update: There is a $250,000 buy out for the option year. It's very similar to Jeff Mathis' contract, Jeff is going to get $1.5 million each of the next two seasons, along with a club option of $1.5 million for 2015.

I think it is a pretty good deal for us, as long as last year's .234/.294/.290 line was caused by the concussion. 2010's .277/.357/.366 and 2011's .268/.345/.344 lines, I hope, will be more closer to the Josh Thole that we'll see in a Blue Jay uniform.

There is the chance that Thole will start this season at Buffalo, I'd hope not, but never know. I still figure the Jays will be signing more catchers to minor league contracts. With catchers, you can never have enough depth.

So yet another season with no Blue Jays going in front of the arbitrator. Bill Risley should be happy, it keeps us talking about him.
