Blue Jays batters in September

Our batters hit .253/.306/.412 and scored 108 runs in the 26 games of September, averaging about 4.2 runs a game.

J.P. Arencibia: You don't need me to tell you that JP had a bad month. He hit .079/.106/.143, with 1 home run, 4 RBI, 2 walks and 20 strikeouts in 20 games, 17 starts. In a year of bad, that was his worst month of the season. I don't know what was going on with him. I get the feeling all us critics got into his head. It's not an easy game to play but if your head is filled with everyone's complaints about your play, it is likely makes it harder to focus on the things you should be focusing on.

Edwin Encarnacion: He hit .229/.359/.516, with 2 home runs, 5 RBI, 6 walks and 6 strikeouts, before going on the DL with the wrist injury. He had a very consistent season.

Jose Reyes: Hit .295/.357/.419, 1 home run, 10 walks, 10 k, 3 steals, 1 caught stealing. He started 25 of the 26 games. He finally looked healthy, I thought his defense looked the best it has been all season, it might help that he had Goins on one side and Lawrie on the other, but it looked like he was moving better out there.

Brett Lawrie: He hit .243/.304/.311, 1 home run, 7 walks, 16 strikeouts, 3 steals, 1 caught. He played and started all 26 games. after he was our player of the month in August, September was a real letdown. I'd like to think August's Brett was the real one, but I'm not sure.

Colby Rasmus: He hit .353/.421/1.059 with 4 home runs, 6 RBI, 2 walks and 3 strikeouts. He played in 6 games, in between coming off the DL and being hit in the head by Gose's throw. The 4 home runs in his first 4 games back from the DL, was pretty impressive.

Adam Lind: He hit .324/.378/.662, with 7 home runs, 20 RBI, 6 walks and 14 strikeouts. He played in 23 games, starting 17 of them. I'd imagine his great finish guaranteed that the Jays will pick up option. The Jays writers voted him player of the month. I'd feel more comfortable about him if he didn't have the back issue. I'm sure he'd be more comfortable too.

Rajai Davis: He hit .242/.296/.485, with 4 home runs, 8 RBI, 5 walks, 16 strikeouts, 5 steals and 2 caught stealing. He played in 18 games, starting, 16. I don't mind him as a fourth outfielder, but he played too much this season. I have my doubts that he'll be back.

Munenori Kawasaki: He hit .268/.362/.317, with 2 RBI, 5 walks, 10 strikeouts and 3 sac bunts. He played in 17 games, starting 10. If he could continue to get on base 36% of the time, I'd love to have him playing second next year.

Mark DeRosa: He hit .344/.432/.375, with 5 RBI, 5 walks and 5 strikeouts. He played in 12 games, starting 9. A pretty nice month to go out on. I'm kind of torn on whether the Jays should bring him back. I'm not a huge believer in veteran presents (though candlesticks are always nice). The trouble is that, with all the injuries we tend to have, anyone that is on the 25-man roster tends to end up getting used a lot and not always in the best situations for the player.

Anthony Gose: He hit .265/.274/.482, with 2 home runs, 4 triples, 10 RBI, 1 walk, 23 strikeouts, 1 steal and 2 caught. He played in 25 games, starting 22. It would be nice if he would take a walk more than once a month.

Josh Thole: He hit .250/.273/.281, with 1 RBI, 1 walk and 8 strikeouts. He played in 11 games, 9 starts. The sad part is that he was the better hitter of our two catchers.

Moises Sierra: He hit .317/.385/.524, with 12 doubles, 1 triple, 1 home run, 11 RBI, 9 walks and 23 strikeouts. He played in 25 games, starting 24. A terrific month, nice to see he can take a walk. I could see him being the right-handed half of a DH platoon with Lind.

Ryan Goins: He hit .200/.211/.303, with 2 home runs, 6 RBI, 1 walk and 24 strikeouts. He played in all 26 games, starting 22. If he would take a walk, more than once a month, with that defense, I'd be happy to see him have a job next year, but he only walked twice in 121 MLB at bats.

Kevin Pillar: He hit .237/.250/.390, with 2 home runs, 7 RBI, 1 walk and 14 strikeouts. He played in 21 games, starting 16. He had a really good year in the minors, he can build on that next year.

Ryan Langerhans: He hit .273/.385/.273, 2 walks, 2 strikeouts, 1 stolen base. He played in 4 games, starting 3. He did a nice job.

Mike Nickeas: He got to catch 1 inning. I do feel kind of bad for him, but I guess getting major league money, for the month, is a good thing.
