Game 12 GameThread: Blue Jays @ Orioles

Patrick Smith

11 games in and we are 6-5 and tied for first.

It seems like the team is being carried by the defense. The bats haven't started up yet (I keep assuming they will). Our .212 batting average only beats out the Astros (how can a team be batting just .188?). We are also second from the bottom in OBP at .284. We move all the way up to 5th worst, in the AL, at slugging with a .369 mark.

There is good news:

Richard Griffin had a few interesting words in his story about TV money

It seems certain that the reason Rogers forced GM Alex Anthopoulos into his outside-the-box deferral plan, involving borrowing money from players to sign Santana, is that the cap on spending is more of a temporary, "show-me" variety. Show us that the group you brought in last year is as good as you said it was and maybe then we can talk about additions. The Jay' fanbase has come so far, if Rogers lets them get away now via a failed ballclub on the field, they would likely never get them back.

I guess that sort of makes sense in a business sort of way. If you had an employee that spent a ton of company money and didn't get the results promises, you might not be in a hurry to give him a bunch more money.

Drew Hutchison makes his 3rd start. He has a 6.23 ERA and a 1-1 record in his first two.

Bud Norris starts for the O's, he's had one start, gave up 5 earned, and 9 hits in 5 innings, against the Tigers.

Today's lineup:

Melky Cabrera, LF Nick Markakis, RF
Maicer Izturis, 2B Nelson Cruz, DH
Jose Bautista, RF Chris Davis, 1B
Edwin Encarnacion, 1B Adam Jones, CF
Adam Lind, DH Steve Clevenger, C

Colby Rasmus, CF Steve Lonbardozzi, 2B
Brett Lawrie, 3B David Lough, LF
Ryan Goins, SS Jonathan Schoop, 3B

Remember we have rules around here. Some reminders, don't talk about illegal streams, don't argue the rules, don't piss off the mods and don't be terrible. Also no Gifs or pictures until the game ends.
