Game three of three with the Tampa Bay Rays or maybe game 2.5 of the series with the Rays. We don't know if this is the rubber match of a tied series or if the Rays have 1 win and yesterday's game is still to be decided.

Personally I don't think they will uphold the Rays protest, the rule clearly states that it's up to the umpire's digression to decide if a challenge can be made and they did let Gibby have the protest. From Chris Toman's game story:

(Umpire Bob) Davidson acknowledged that Maddon's point of view would be valid if Buehrle was on the rubber and Escobar in the box before the challenge was made, but felt Gibbons called for a review just prior to those two events happening.

"I was at third base and I've got everything in front of me," Davidson said to a pool reporter following the game. "I see Buehrle, he's on the rubber, and as I'm seeing Escobar getting ready -- from my judgment -- to get into the box, now I see Gibbons giving the thumbs up that he's coming out. So I thought, in my judgment, that it was in time to file a challenge on the play."

If Davidson sticks to that story, the Jays should be in the clear. Add in that baseball hates to say yes to a team's protest (it is messy, I'm going to take it for granted that baseball will rule against the Rays.

Drew Hutchison has had a tough time of it since the All-Star break, in his 6 starts since then he is 2-3 with a 6.95 ERA. I'm willing to give him a mulligan on the second half, seeing that he's come back from Tommy John. Next year I'll expect better. Chris Archer, on the other hand, is 4-3 with a 3.08 ERA since the break.

Juan Francisco gets a start, his first in a week, though there were some days off in there. Valencia isn't proving to be much better with the glove, or the bat really. Juan has just 3 hits this month. On the other hand Valencia is hitting .300/.340/.360 this month.

And Sergio Santos is back.

I've got a bit of a drive ahead today, so I'll be listening in on the radio.
