With A.J. Jimenez going ton the DL, the Bisons need a catcher and the Jays need someone that can be called up if someone is hurt. So they signed Canadian catcher George Kottaras.
Kottaras has played a handful of games for the Indians and Cardinals this season, 14 games in total, hitting .269/.375/.615 with 3 home runs, 5 walks and 13 strikeouts.
I always kind of liked the guy, I'd probably rather have him than Josh Thole or Erik Kratz, but that's likely my own weird preference for Canadians and catchers with some power. And he does know how to take a walk. It A.J. Jimenez is out for longer than a month (I have no idea what his injury is), Kottaras could be in line for a September call up. I'd imagine they will want to have 3 catchers on the team.
