Well, I wanted a rumor to write about:
Ichiro Suzuki, so far, is drawing interest from the #BlueJays, #Marlins and #Orioles, who are all looking for outfield help.
— Bob Nightengale (@BNightengale) January 7, 2015
Ichiro is 41. He played 143 games with the Yankees last year and hit .284/.324/.340. His 3 seasons with the Yankees he has a .281/.314/.364 line, with 49 stolen bases.
He is 156 hits away from 3000 (in the MLB) and recently said he'd like to keep playing until he's 50. He made $6.5 million last year, I have no idea what he would be expecting this year, but, if the Jays have limited funds, I can't see why we'd want to spend some on a 41 year old outfielder.
Last year he played mostly right field but had a hand full of innings in left and center. Fangraphs had him at a -1.5 UZR/150, which is pretty good for a 40-year old. That's a sharp drop from the year before, when they had him at 14.7 UZR/150. Likely, he'd be a little better than average.
I really don't see why we would want him, but he might be a better 4th outfielder than we have at the moment. Maybe signing him would make it easier to get Takashi Toritani?
