Well, this is a surprise, the Jays have signed J.A. Happ to a 3-year, $36 million contract. It does seems like a fair bit of money for someone we were paying $5.2 million in 2014.
You all know Happ was a Jay for 3 seasons, after a trade with the Astros, and then was traded to the Mariners last winter for Michael Saunders. Then the Mariners traded him to the Pirates at the trade deadline. In 3 seasons as a Blue Jay, Happ had a 4.39 ERA and a 19-20 record in 58 games, 50 starts.
Last year, he was 4-6 with a 4.64 ERA as a Mariner, then pitched much better for the Pirates, going 7-2 with a 1.85 ERA in 11 starts.
