The Blue Jays have announced that they have accepted the options on the contracts of Jose Bautista ($14 million), R.A. Dickey ($11 million) and Edwin Encarnacion ($10 million) and declined the option on Maicer Izturis ($3 million), who is now a free agent.
No huge surprises, I wasn't sure if they wouldn't rather have RA's money to go after another pitcher, but the $11 million that it costs to pick up his option, isn't much for 200 innings. Or at least I hope he'll still giving 200 innings. I guess we'll see. I'd like him to put together a full season that matches his 2015 second half. That would be nice.
Jose and Edwin, well there was no doubt they would have their options picked up. Maicer, oh well, he never really got to show us what he could do, but they was no chance they would give him another $2 million ($3 million option with a $1 million buyout) to let him try again.
Soon we should have news on players up for arbitration.
