Blue Jays claim Andy Wilkins off waivers from the White Sox

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

The Blue Jays have claimed left-handed hitting first baseman Andy Wilkins from the White Sox.

Wilkins hit .333/.400/.476 in 14 spring games this year. He played 14 games for the Sox last year, hitting .140/.178/.186. But his minor league numbers, in Triple A Charlotte were very good, .293/.338/.558 with 30 home runs, leading the International League in homers. .

Shi Davidi says he has been optioned to Buffalo. I don't understand why the Sox would waive someone they could put in the minors, but for us, he gives us more depth at first base.

Wilkins is 26, he was a 25th round pick in the 2007 draft. I'm curious to see what the Jays plan to do with him. Minor Leaguer tells me he has all his options left.
