Jose Reyes came out of today's game with 'soreness in his side'. He's been battling soreness in his left oblique for the last week or so. Today he came out of the game after the top of the first, after grounding out.
Reyes has had a nice start to the season with the bat, hitting .333/.359/.417 in the first 9 games.
The Blue Jays just DFAed Todd Redmond and called up Ryan Goins today, so we do have someone that can play short, at least defensively. Goins is a much better glove than Reyes but he doesn't hit much, though he had a pretty good spring and has hit .350/.333/.400 in 6 games for the Buffalo Bisons. I'm not expecting him to continue to hit that well, but he singled in his first at bat for the Jays today.
I'm hoping that a day or two of rest will cure what ails Reyes, he's an important part of the offense.
UPDATE (by Minor Leaguer)
Reyes will miss Friday's game against the Braves, according to manager John Gibbons.
"He's a little tender in his rib area." -- Gibbons on Reyes, who won't play tomorrow. #BlueJays
