Blue Jays Minor League Report - April 29

A lot of strong pitching outings as the Baby Jays go 2-1 on Wednesday night. Chad Jenkins & John Anderson had quality starts in wins for Buffalo & New Hampshire.

Buffalo Recap
Buffalo scored a run on a passed ball in the 8th, and that was the difference in a 2-1 win over Norfolk. Both teams got strong pitching efforts, and the Herd was able to squeak out the win. Buffalo had 5 hits, including 2 doubles and walked twice. They also struck out 4 times. Norfolk had 6 hits, all singles, and a walk.

  • Chad Jenkins started and went 6 innings. He gave up 5 singles and struck out 3 batters. Jenkins recorded 8 ground outs on the night in what was his 3rd straight solid start
  • Preston Guilmet had a scoreless inning, giving up a hit and recording a K
  • Steve Delabar had an inning where he allowed a walk and struck out once
  • Bo Schultz pitched the 9th and struck out 2 batters and didn't allow a runner

  • Matt Hague had 2 doubles in this one.
  • Ezequiel Carrera had 2 singles and scored a run. Carrera also stole his 6th base of the year
  • Munenori Kawasaki had a single as well
  • Andy Burns & Chris Colabello had a walk each

New Hampshire Recap
New Hampshire got a strong outing from their pitching staff, as the Fisher Cats held Trenton to 2 hits in a 4-1 win. Trenton started the game with a run in the top of the 1st, and that was all they could get. New Hampshire added 3 in the 8th to pull out a victory in their 3rd straight and 6th in their last 7. New Hampshire had 11 hits and 2 walks on the night. They also struck out 11 times

  • John Anderson had a fantastic outing, allowing a run on 1 hit and 3 walks in 7 innings. Anderson only needed 84 pitches through 7. He recorded 5 K's on the night
  • Austen Bibens-Dirkx moved from Buffalo's rotation to NH's bullpen and pitched a scoreless inning. He allowed 2 walks and struck out a batter
  • Blake McFarland threw the 9th, giving up a hit and striking out 1

  • Matt Newman had a big game with 3 hits, including a 2-run double in the 8th.
  • Jack Murphy was also strong with an RBI double in the 8th, and added 2 singles
  • Ryan Schimpf picked up his 4th HR of the year in this one
  • Dwight Smith had a single and picked up 2 walks
  • Jake Fox had a double in the 8th to start the rally
  • Melky Mesa & K.C. Hobson both had a single and a K. Hobson also made his 3rd error of the year, which isn't great from a 1B
  • Jon Berti had a rough night going 0-5 with 3 K's

Dunedin Recap
If there was a time for a team to get a night off, Dunedin got it tonight. After losing the last two games by a combined 18 runs, the D-Jays enjoyed a night off

Lansing Recap
In another pitcher's duel, Lansing was unable to pull out the win, losing 2-1 to Lake County. Both teams had 4 hits in this one, the difference being the Captains 2 solo HR's. Lansing picked up 2 walks and 14 K's on the night, as every batter struck out at least once. Lake County had 7 walks and 6 K's, as the young Lug pitching minimized hits, but struggled with the zone. The Lugnuts also allowed 3 stolen bases

  • Sean Reid-Foley started and went 3 innings. He again showed to be tough to hit, but struggled with the strike zone. SRF allowed 1 hit, but walked 4 on the night. He also had 3 K's
  • Andrew Case had a rough outing, throwing an inning and giving up a single and the 2 solo HR's. He also recorded a K
  • Justin Shafer had a pretty solid outing, throwing 4 hitless innings. Shafer did allow 3 walks and struck out 2. Shafer also had 6 ground outs to 3 fly outs

  • Justin Atkinson paced the Lugs with 2 hits and drove in the only run of the game. He also struck out twice
  • Tim Locastro had a double and a strike out
  • Rowdy Tellez doubled as well. He also had a walk and 2 K's
  • Anthony Alford moved into the 3-spot in the line-up and went 0-3 with a walk and 2 K's
  • Richard Urena & Michael De La Cruz both K'd twice.

BUF - Buffalo takes on Norfolk (BAL) at home. Todd Redmond makes his AAA debut for the year
NH - New Hampshire has a day off Thursday
DUN - Dunedin welcomes Clearwater (PHI) to Florida Auto Exchange Stadium. Murphy Smith gets the start
