Final roster spot decision made: Liam Hendriks in, Ryan Goins out

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

The Blue Jays have finally made their final roster decision. Liam Hendriks joins the bullpen, giving us 8 in the pen to start the season, and Ryan Goins starts the season in Buffalo (but likely won't be there long).

I'm really not a fan of the 8-man bullpen, but the Jays are afraid that if they send Hendriks down now, he'll be lost on waivers. They hope that if they do it in say 10 days, they will be able to sneak him through waivers. The Jays keep going to the 8-man pen. It always seems that there is one guy that never gets used. And it limits what you can do on offense. You can't do much pinch hitting or pinch running with just 3 guys on the bench

That makes Tolleson the back us shortstop to start the season. I'm not thrilled with this, I'd like the team to be able to rest Jose Reyes and they really can't with Tolleson backing him up. Tolleson has 53 innings of MLB experience at short. He doesn't have the range for the position but he can play in an emergency.

Goins has had have very nice spring, hitting .308/.379/.558 in 52 spring at bats. He does deserve to be on the team, he'd be a very good defensive replacement in late inning. I hope he's back up soon. I'd like the Jays to be resting Reyes as much as possible,

Hendriks has looked pretty good this spring too, he pitched a clean inning last night, with 2 strikeouts. He has a 3.72 ERA in 9.2 innings, with 11 strikeouts, 3 walks and 2 home runs this spring.
