Blue Jays roster moves

Eric Bolte-USA TODAY Sports

To set the roster for opening day, the Blue Jays made a number of roster moves:

  • Michael Saunders goes on the 15-day DL.
  • Maicer Izturis goes on the 15-day DL.
  • Marcus Stroman goes on the 60-day DL.
  • Juan Oramas gets designated for assignment.
  • And the club selects the contracts of Miguel Castro, Roberto Osuna and Devon Travis.

No surprises there. The only one we didn't know would happen was Oramas, and we knew someone had to come off the 40-man to make room for the three contracts they were adding.

The official opening day roster looks like this:

Pitchers - LHP Mark Buehrle, RHP Miguel Castro, LHP Brett Cecil, RHP R.A. Dickey, RHP Marco Estrada, RHP Liam Hendriks, RHP Drew Hutchison, LHP Colt Hynes, LHP Aaron Loup, LHP Daniel Norris, RHP Roberto Osuna, RHP Todd Redmond, RHP Aaron Sanchez.

Catchers - Russell Martin, Dioner Navarro

Infielders - Josh Donaldson, Edwin Encarnacion, Jose Reyes, Justin Smoak, Steve Tolleson, Devon Travis, Danny Valencia

Outfielders - Jose Bautista, Kevin Pillar, Dalton Pompey

The bench looks to be Tolleson, Valencia and Navarro, unless Navarro is DH. It should be interesting.

Tomorrow we should hear the minor league rosters of the Blue Jays full season teams.
