The Blue Jays have sent Scott Copeland back to the Buffalo Bisons. Copeland was called up May 19th and sat in the pen never getting a chance to play. It is kind of nice not to have needed a long man. The Jay say the corresponding move will be announced tomorrow.
The possibilities:
- Dioner Navarro: He'll be playing his third rehab game in Buffalo tonight. He could come up any time, but it seems against the Jays philosophy to go with a 6-man bullpen, but then, our starters are going deeper into games. On the other hand, 3 catchers, and Jose Bautista having to DH.....it doesn't seem like the optimum roster.
- Randy Wolf: Randy has an opt out clause on July 1 and that's coming up quickly. Wolf has a 1.95 ERA in 9 starts. In 50.2 innings, he's allowed 54 hits, 0 home runs, 23 walks with 35 strikeouts. He doesn't strike me as the long reliever type, but maybe the Jays want to make sure he doesn't leave. Maybe he could take Marco's spot in the rotation and Marco could go back to the pen, though Marco has looked pretty good as the 5th starter.
- Bo Schultz: Bo has a 1.69 ERA in 21.1 innings at Buffalo. He's allowed 15 hits, 1 home run, 7 walks with 18 strikeouts. We could use another decent right-hander in the pen. Roberto Osuna is the only right-handed reliever that Gibby really trusts in close games.
I'd suggest Dalton Pompey as a possibility, but he's been out with an injury. They say he'll play again Friday, but I don't expect the Jays would bring him up until, at very least, he proves he is healthy again.
Let's have a poll....
