I know this surprises you, but MLB has named Devon Travis their April AL Rookie of the Month. Travis hit ..352/.393/.625 with 6 home runs and 23 RBI in April.
Devon joins Eric Hinske, Josh Phelps (2 time winner), Reed Johnson, Gustavo Chacin (2 time winner) and Scott Richmond as Jays who have won the Rookie of the Month Award, since they started handing it out in 2001. Chacin (2005) and Richmond (2009) also won it in April.
I'm thinking that Travis has a better Blue Jays career than any of those guys.
Travis has twice the WAR of the next best AL Rookie Mark Canha of the A's, who hit .279/.329/.412 in April.
Congratulations Devon.
In other news, the Jays have traded Matt West to the Dodgers for 'cash considerations'. I was hopefull that he would sneak through waivers, but I guess not. West, as you'll likely remember, was DFAed along with Andy Wilkins (who also was traded to the Dodgers) so that Scott Copleland and Ezequiel Carerra could be added to the roster last week.
I had some hopes that West would be called up to the team at some point. He had 17 strikeouts in 12 innings at New Hampshire with a 0 ERA.
