Who's Up, Who's Down On the Blue Jays: Batters

Dan Hamilton-USA TODAY Sports

Yesterday we looked at how the pitchers performed for the last couple of weeks, now it is the batter's turn. We hit .253/.313/.409 over the last 13 games, and averaged 4.7 runs per game.

Batters

Blue Up

Russell Martin Russell has played in 12 of the 13 games, starting 10. He's been pretty amazing, hitting .425/.489/.925 with 5 doubles, 5 home runs, 9 RBI, 1 steal, 5 walks and 8 strikeouts. I'm ok with him hitting like that for the rest of the season. He's also thrown out 44% of base stealers this season.

Red Down

Edwin Encarnacion

Edwin played in all 13 games. hitting a very unEdwin like .245/.302/.306 with 3 doubles, 6 RBI, 4 walks and 13 strikeouts. He had a good day with the bat yesterday, taking a nice walk and hitting the ball hard each time up, hopefully he's starting to turn it around.

Red Down

Devon Travis

Devon played in 12 of the 13 games. He hasn't been hitting as well as when he started the season. He seems to be chasing more. Maybe the little injury is bugging him more than he let on. .204/.278/.429 with 2 doubles, 3 home runs, 8 RBI, 5 walks and 12 strikeouts.

red cross

Jose Reyes

He played in 3 games, before hitting the DL, hitting .182/.182/.182 with 1 steal and 3 strikeouts.

Red Down

Josh Donaldson

Josh played in all 13 games. He hit .240/.333/.380 with 1 double, 2 home runs, 5 RBI, 2 steals, 7 walks and 8 strikeouts. He's another who was doing great, but has seen his bat slow down.

Blue Up

Kevin Pillar

Kevin played in all 13 games too. He hit .280/.321/.420 with 5 doubles, 1 triple, 6 RBI, 3 steals, 2 walks and 6 strikeouts. With his defense, I'm pretty happy with those numbers. I'd like him to walk a bit more, but we can't have everything.

Red Down

Dalton Pompey

Dalton's played in 7 games before being sent down. In those 7 games he hit .083/.120/.125 with 1 double, 0 walks, 1 steal and 7 strikeouts. He hasn't picked it up yet in Buffalo, hitting .091/.167/.091 in his first 3 games.

Arrow around

Jose Bautista

Jose played in 10 for the 13 games, all at DH since hurting his shoulder. I thought he was slumping but he has hit .265/.366/.500 with 5 doubles, 1 home run, 7 RBI, 6 walks, and 13 strikeouts. If that's a slump, I'd take it. He does seem to be getting ripped off on strike calls, I'm hoping that evens out.

Red Down

Justin Smoak

Justin has played in 9 games, and hit .188/.188/.438 with 1 double, 1 home run, 2 RBI, 0 walks and 6 strikeouts. He's not getting much playing time with Bautista DHing and Edwin at first base.

Red_down_medium

Michael Saunders

He's played in 8 games, hitting .222/.344/.222 with no extra base hits, 3 RBI, 5 walks and 10 strikeouts. He looks like his knee is still hurting and, since they drained fluid from it, I'm sure it still is hurting.

Red Down

Josh Thole

Josh played in 3 games, had 9 at bats and 1 hit, 1 RBI and 2 strikeouts.

Red Down

Danny Valencia

Danny played in 5 games, hit .200/.200/.250 with 1 double, 2 RBI, 0 walks and 7 strikeouts. He played a game at third, 2 in right and 2 in left. He looked better in the outfield than Colabello has.

Arrow around

Ryan Goins

Ryan played in 10 of the last 13 games, hitting .265/.286/.412, with a double, 2 triples, 3 RBI, 1 walk and 3 strikeouts. Considering his defense, he's been pretty good.

Blue Up

Ezequiel Carrera
Ezequiel has played in 5 games and has hit .385/.429/.385 with 3 RBI, 1 walk and 5 strikeouts. I'm surprised he hasn't tried a steal yet.

Steve Tolleson played  one game before being DFAed, and becoming a free agent and then re-signing with the Jays going 0 for 4.

Jonathan Diaz got into 4 games, had 7 PA, no hits, 1 walk, 1 RBI, 1 strikeout and 1 very nice squeeze bunt.

Chris Colabello has played in 2 games, 8 at bats, 6 hits, 2 doubles, 2 RBI, 1 strikeout. He's hitting just .750.

Editor note: SB Nation partner Fanduel is running a $60,000 game tonight, it costs just $3 to play.  Give it a try.
