Who's up, Who's down: Blue Jays Batters

Bruce Kluckhohn-USA TODAY Sports

There has been so much joy the past couple of weeks. It seems like a whole different season.

Our offense has been terrific. We averaged 5.8 runs a game in our 9-3 stretch over the past two weeks.

Batters

Blue Up

Russell Martin Russell played in 9, starting 8 of the 12 games. He know, I thought he was slumping, but .276/.400/.483 with 2 home runs, 5 RBI, 1 steal (1 caught), 6 walks and 4 strikeouts, doesn't read like slumping. i'm glad they are giving him some days off.

Arrow around

Edwin Encarnacion

Edwin played in 8 games, starting 7. He's battling a sore shoulder, but really isn't hitting all that bad, .250/.345/.458 with 2 doubles, 1 home run, 4 RBI, 4 walks and 5 strikeouts. I can't give anyone a down arrow when they have hit a walk-off homer.

red cross

Devon Travis

Last I heard, he took batting practice and it went well, so he should be playing rehab games soon.

Blue Up

Jose Reyes

Jose played in all 12 games. He hit .365/.411/.519 with 2 doubles, 2 home run, 10 RBI, 6 steals (without being caught, though he was picked off once), 4 walks, 7 strikeouts. The 2 steals in the walk-off inning, last Sunday, were huge (as well as getting tripped over at second). I'll put up with his defense to get that bat, but I'd also be putting in a defensive replacement in games we are winning.

Blue Up

Josh Donaldson

Josh played in all 12 games, Gibby DHed him once to give him a bit of rest. He's been amazing.  .327.357.596 with 2 doubles, 4 home runs, 9 RBI, 1 steal, 2 walks and 8 strikeouts. Add in his defense and he's tough to beat. The two barehanded plays he made, in one inning, the other day were just so much fun to watch.

Blue Up

Kevin Pillar

Kevin played and started 11 of the 12 games. And, you know, he's been great. .351/.390/.649 with 2 doubles, 3 home runs, 11 RBI, 1 steal, 3 walks and 8 strikeouts. Keep it up Kevin.

Red Down

Chris Colabello

Chris played in 11 of the 12 games. His batting streak ends and they sit him out. There is a message for you. Either hit everyday or sit. Anyway, the last two weeks haven't been as great him, .261/.277/.370 with 1 home run, 8 RBI, 0 walks and 12 strikeouts. I hate to give him a down arrow, but, with defense like his, I want more than a .646 OPS.

Blue Up

Jose Bautista

Jose played all 12 games. He hit .333/.463/.667 with 2 doubles, 4 home runs, 7 RBI, 2 steal, 10 walks and 7 strikeouts. I keep thinking he hasn't been hot yet, but a 1.130 OPS is pretty great even for him. I'm happy to see him back in the outfield. It also impressed me to see him working with Colabello on his defense.  People keep claiming he is not a leader, but I can't see why, he plays hard all the time, what more do you want from a leader.

Blue Up

Justin Smoak

Justin played in 11 games, starting 6. He'l finally getting some fairly regular at bats. .250/.333/.500 with 3 doubles, 1 home run, 5 RBI, 3 walks and 7 strikeouts.

Red Down

Dioner Navarro

Back from the DL, he's played in 5 games and made 4 starts. He's hit .200/.250/.200, on 3 singles, 1 walk and 2 strikeouts.

Arrow around

Ezequiel Carrera

Ezequiel played in 10 games, starting 6. He hit .318/.318/.409 with 2 doubles, 1 RBI, 1 steal, 0 walks and 6 strikeouts. It would be alright if he walked some, but he hasn't been bad.

Blue Up

Danny Valencia

Danny played in just 4 games, starting 3 (would you start a lefty pitcher against the Jays?). He has been great in his few at bats, .364/.385/.727, 4 hits, all doubles, 3 RBI, 1 walk and 2 strikeouts.

Red Down

Ryan Goins

Ryan played in all 12 games, starting 11. He hit .129/.125/.194, 2 doubles, 2 RBI, 0 walks and 6 strikeouts. We keep being told that he's learned how to hit but he has just the 1 hit so far this month. Great defense, but I'd rather he be on the bench and be a late game defensive sub.

Blue Up

Munenori Kawasaki

Munenori is a good guy to have on the bench, but, of course, he's back in Buffalo. He played in 6 games, starting 2. He hit .333/.429/.667 in 7 plate appearances. I dn

SB Nation partner Fanduel is running a $70,000 game tonight, it costs just $5 to play. Give it a try.
