Jays call up Todd Redmond, Rob Rasmussen, activate R.A. Dickey

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Barry Davis, on Twitter tells us that Todd Redmond, Rob Rasmussen with be called up today, by the Blue Jays, and that R.A. Dickey will be activated from the bereavement list. They take the roster spots of Phil Coke, Scott Copeland and Ryan Tepera, who were sent down after yesterday's game.

We figured that Devon Travis would be coming up today, but the Jays have decided that he need 'a couple more days of rehab....I guess the first clue should have been that Munenori Kawasaki wasn't sent down yesterday. Sometimes I wonder if Travis will ever be back.

Redmond started the season on the roster, had a couple of terrible relief appearances, and was sent out. Then, back on May 14th, he was called up to make a spot start, and that didn't go all that well either, he fought through 4 innings allowing 3 runs. In Buffalo he is 1-2, with a 4.81 ERA. In 24.1 innings, he's allow 26 hits, 9 walks with 17 strikeouts. Last year he was a very useful long reliever, but things aren't working out so well this year.

It's Rasmussen's first time up with the Jays this year. In Buffalo, he has a 4-1 record and a 2.93 ERA. In 21 appearances, 1 start, he's pitched 30.2 innings, allowed 21 hits, 15 walks and 31 strikeouts. Rob pitched in 10 games for the Jays last year, putting up a 3.18 ERA in 11.1 innings. He allowed 8 hits, 7 walks with 13 strikeouts.

After using so many relievers, in the series with the Orioles, we needed some fresh arms in pen for the series with the Rays. I kind of feel sorry for Phil Coke, he gets to call up, back on June 11, and pretty much just sits in the pen, gets just his second appearance and gets sent out again. It isn't like he didn't pitch well. Ryan Tepera was pretty good in our pen too, I'd expect we'll see him again before too long.
