Who's up, Who's down: Blue Jays pitchers

I love this jersey on him.
I love this jersey on him.
Andy Marlin-USA TODAY Sports

The Jays pitchers have had a great couple of weeks.

The team went 11-2 over the past couple of weeks. The pitchers have a 1.95 ERA. It's amazing how much better the pitching has been.

Pitchers

Blue Up

R.A. Dickey

R.A. made 3 very good starts, he won 2 of them and the team won the other in extras (thanks Jose). In the 3 games, he had a 0.41 ERA. In 22 innings he allowed 15 hits, 1 home runs, 5 walks with 13 strikeouts. Batters hit .188/.235/.238 against him.  And we've even been scoring for him, 15 runs in the 3 games.

Blue Up

Mark Buehrle

Mark had 2 pretty good starts. He went 7 innings and allowed 3 earned in each. We won one and lost one (Mark Lowe's first appearance with the team). In the 2 games, he had a 3.86 ERA, in the 14 innings, he allowed 10 hits, 3 home runs, 1 walk with 4 strikeouts. Batters hit .192/.222/.404 against him. I really enjoy watching him pitch.

Blue Up

Marco Estrada

3 good starts, we won all 3 games, and Marco got the win in each. In 18.2 innings, he allowed 8 hits, 3 earned, 0 home runs, 5 walks with 14 strikeouts and had a 1.45 ERA. Batters hit just .131/.217/.164 against him. The slight knock is that he isn't pitching deep into games.   Gibby has had a pretty quick hook with him. Likely not a bad idea. He's had a much better season than any of us would have expected, maybe Gibby (or Walker) having a good eye for when he's tiring is part of the reason why. The most surprising thing is that he isn't giving up many home runs.

Red Down

Drew Hutchison

Sigh. Drew made 2 starts, and the good news is that we won both games, Drew getting the win in one. The team scored 16 runs for him. That's about all the good news. He had a 5.40 ERA. In 10 innings, he allowed 14 hits, 6 earned (5 unearned runs), 1 home run, 3 walks with 6 strikeouts. Batters hit .341/.386/.512 against him.

Blue Up

David Price

You likely know this, but Price has made 2 very good starts for the Blue Jays. 2 wins, a 0.60 ERA. He pitched 15 innings, allowed 6 hits, 2 doubles, 1 home run, 5 walks and 18 strikeouts. Batters hit .118/.196/.216 against him. Can we keep him? You might have heard, but he also likes popcorn. Who doesn't?

He's also the AL's co-Player of the Week, along with Josh Donaldson.

Blue Up

Brett Cecil

Brett pitched in 5 games, had 2 holds and a win. In 13 PA, he allowed just 1 single, no walks with 3 strikeouts. A 0 ERA and a .077/.077/.077 batting line. No bad at all.

Blue Up

Roberto Osuna

Roberto pitched in 6 games, picked up 5 saves and pitched a clean 9th in out extra inning win over the Royals. He allowed 2 hits (1 home run) and 1 walk, with 3 strikeouts in 6.1 innings, for a 1.42 ERA. 2 hits in 21 PA, for a .100/.143/.250 line. Pretty good, I'd say.

Red Down

Aaron Loup

Aaron only pitched in 1 game, to 1 batter, who singled (who says we don't need an 8-man bullpen). Seems kind of cruel to give him a down arrow.

Blue Up

Aaron Sanchez

Aaron pitched in 6 games and had 4 holds. He faced 19 batters, allowed just  1 walk and, you might remember, he hit a batter and had 5 strikeouts. And he got suspended. Since Osuna gave up a home run, after Sanchez was ejected for the hit by pitch, Aaron's credited with  earned run, so had a 1.59 ERA. Batters hit .000/.105/.000.  Pretty terrific.

Blue Up

Liam Hendriks

Liam pitched in 4 games (more than I thought). He faced 17 batters, allowed 1 double, 1 hit batter, and struck out 10. Let's say that again, he struck out 10 of 17 batters faced. He had a .063/.118/.125 batting line against. A 0.00 ERA. He had 1 win and 1 hold.

Blue Up

LaTroy Hawkins

LaTroy pitched in 6 games for us. No earned runs. 21 batters faced, 5 singles, 0 walks, 5 strikeouts. Batters hit .250/.250/.250 against him. He had a save and 2 holds.

Blue Up

Bo Schultz

Bo pitched in 3 games (again, gotta love that 8-man pen). He faced 17 batters, gave up 2 singles, 1 walk had 2 strikeouts. There was an earned run in there, so he had a 1.80 ERA. Batters hit .133/.176/.133.

Red Down

Mark Lowe

Mark's pitched in 4 games for us. That first one was pretty terrible. He didn't allow a base runner in the other 3 games. In total 3.1 innings, 4 hits allowed, 1 home run, 2 strikeouts adding up to a 8.10 ERA.  He had 2 holds to go with the loss. Batters hit .333/.333/.667 against him.
