I just received a Blue Jays press release saying the Jays had signed free agent Maicer Izturis and I figured I must have gone into my deleted items box by mistake.

But no, this is new. The Jays signed Izturis to a minor league contract, with an invite to spring training.

I'm sure you know the story. Alex signed Izturis to a 3-year, $3 million per year contract, with an option for a fourth year. In the three seasons, Izturis played 118 games, spending more time on the DL than in uniform. The Jays declined the option on the 2016 season, giving him the $1,000,000 buy out. I figured we were done with him.

As a Jay, Izturis hit .240/.291/.310 with 5 home runs.

I guess it wouldn't be totally impossible for him to win a utility infielder job this spring, but, I would imagine Vegas would give you better odds on him getting injured.

Update:

More Friday news, the Jays have extended their association with the Vancouver Canadians through the 2018 season. Very good news.
