Blue Jays 1 Clevelanders 2
The offense continues to go missing.
At least we scored today, a single from Darwin Barney, who moved to second on a hit and run, then scored on Josh Donaldson double.
They also accounted for 2 of our 3 hits. We had those 3 hits, against starter Josh Tomlin, who we really should have been able to hit more.
The lazy analysis is ‘they were swinging for the fences too much’, but it would be nice to score more than a run over two games.
And then we couldn’t do a thing against Bryan Shaw, Andrew Miller and Cody Allen, who managed 7 strikeouts in 3.1 innings.
On the pitching side, J.A. Happ was pretty good, he went 5 innings, allowed 4 hits, 2 earned, 1 walk with 4 strikeouts. He gave up a home run to Carlos Santana, that cleared the wall in left by less than a foot.
The other run came after Roberto Perez walked, and would be put out on a fielder’s choice, putting Rajai Davis on first. He didn’t stay there long. He stole second and then moved to third on a ‘wild pitch’ that Russell Martin really should have corralled.
I am thinking things will be better at home. I hope so, I’m spending a fair bit of money to go to Toronto to watch the games there, I’d like to see us score a bunch.
Jays of the Day? Well, let’s give one to Joe Biagini (.086 WPA), for his 2 innings of relief, allowing just a walk.
Suckage....basically the offense, but let’s ‘award’ Tulo (-.117 for an 0 for 4, moving up to the 5th spot in the order), Bautista (-.101, 0 for 3 with a walk. He could have helped us out by getting a hit with Josh and Edwin on base in the 3rd inning), Carrera (-.096, 0 for 4 from the leadoff spot) and Edwin (-.095, for an 0 for 3 with a walk).
