Friday Bantering: Lineups, Day/Night Stats

MLB: Toronto Blue Jays at Los Angeles Angels Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

Yesterday’s game was the first time in, it seems like, weeks that I was relaxed all game long.

Only one change for the Blue Jays, Saunders is in, Upton is out. The Rangers have a few changes.

Today's Lineups

TORONTO BLUE JAYS TEXAS RANGERS
Devon Travis - 2B Carlos Gomez - LF
Josh Donaldson - 3B Ian Desmond - CF
Edwin Encarnacion - 1B Carlos Beltran - DH
Jose Bautista - RF Adrian Beltre - 3B
Russell Martin - C Rougned Odor - 2B
Troy Tulowitzki - SS Jonathan Lucroy - C
Michael Saunders - DH Ryan Rua - 1B
Kevin Pillar - CF Elvis Andrus - SS
Ezequiel Carrera - LF Nomar Mazara - RF
J.A. Happ - LHP Yu Darvish - RHP

J.A. Happ has made a number of day game starts this season (thanks to @bradyloach for pointing this out). He made 14 day starts and was 10-1 with a 3.07 ERA (just a little better than his 3.28 ERA at night. He got more strikeouts in day game, 8.3/9 compared to 6.9 at night.

Looked at Yu Darvish too, he only made 4 day game starts (but then he only had 17 starts on the season). He was 1-2 with a 2.82 ERA in those 4 starts. The Jays didn’t face Yu this year, but have had trouble against him in the past. He has a 3-2 record and a 2.45 ERA in 7 starts.

Few on the team have hit Darvish well:

The Jays as a team have a good record in day games, 35-26 compared to 54-47 at night. Our batters hit a bit better during the day, .252/.334/.439 day, .245/.327/.417 night. And they score more during the day, 5.02 runs per game daytime, 4.49 at night.

The Rangers are 24-34 in day games, 71-44 at night. Their batters had a bit more trouble in the day, hitting .258/.322/.415 in 47 day games, .263/.321/.441 in 115 games at night.
